Job summary

Fermilab is seeking a SRF Mechanical Technician to provide complex technical support for an experimental or support group. The role is onsite in Batavia, IL and requires extensive experience in electrical/mechanical systems, plus ES&H duties and safety compliance.

The ideal candidate has DOE lab exposure and a strong mechanical/technical background. Responsibilities include fabrication, setup, testing, documentation, and problem-solving for specialized equipment, with opportunities to lead in

Qualifications

• HS degree (or technical certificate) plus 5+ years of extensive related experience or 3+ years’ experience at a DOE laboratory or in a technical skill of strategic importance to the Lab’s mission (e.g., cryo, radio frequency, radiation protection, clean room, etc.).
• Experience working in a DOE laboratory environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, set up, operate, test, repair, and modify complex equipment for Laboratory projects based on drawings and schematics.
• Act as point person for technical issues and assist in construction and assembly of experiment equipment.
• Prepare setup for testing phases and test equipment using diagnostic software; update procedures and documentation.
• Produce reports and maintain safety records using databases and spreadsheets.
• Provide technical support and maintenance for instruments; troubleshoot and repair as needed.
• Perform ES&H duties, environmental surveys, waste handling, and related documentation.
