Job summary

TC Energy is seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to support our US Gas Operations Upland Prairie team, focusing on eastern Iowa and western Illinois, including Eldridge and nearby areas. You will troubleshoot and maintain electrically driven gas compressors and related equipment in a safety‑driven environment.

The role requires strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, experience with gas systems, and willingness to work on-call, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of mechanical experience.
• Experience with electrically driven gas compressors preferred.
• Knowledge of electric motors, VFDs, centrifugal gas compressors, and standby generators.
• Ability to pass medical and drug testing; valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, operate and maintain electrically driven gas compressors and support equipment.
• Maintain and repair pipelines, valves and regulators.
• Inspect, repair and set regulators and relief valves.
• Plan, coordinate and perform mechanical maintenance activities; complete SAP work orders.
• Be available for 24/7 on-call and travel for temporary assignments.

Guided by our values of safety in every step, personal accountability, one team and active learning, we deliver the critical energy that North America and the world rely on while balancing reliability, affordability and sustainability.The OpportunityOur US Gas Operations Upland Prairie team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in eastern Iowa and western Illinois to support the operation and maintenance of our natural gas pipelines and associated facilities throughout Eldridge, La Moille and the surrounding area.We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician who possesses knowledge and experience of high-pressure natural gas pipeline, to include electrically driven gas compressors.This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses strong analytical, troubleshooting and decision-making skills.What you’ll doTroubleshoot, operate and maintain electrically driven gas compressors, standby generator engines, centrifugal and diaphragm pumps, low pressure boilers, oil coolers, air compressors, large-bank cooler fans and gear boxes, large diameter valves and operators, and other auxiliary equipmentOperate electrically driven gas compressors and support equipmentMaintain and repair pipelineOperate and maintain valves and operatorsInspect, repair and set regulators and relief valvesBlow down, purge and pressurize pipelines and/or stationsPerform line locates on company pipelines and/or utility line patrols and associated ROW maintenancePlan, coordinate and perform mechanical maintenance activities, to include routine corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, equipment and system improvements and major maintenance projectsComplete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAPOther tasks as requiredMinimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalentRelevant oil and gas industry experienceAt least 3 years of mechanical experiencePreferred QualificationsExperience in maintaining and troubleshooting electrically driven gas compressorsKnowledge of electric motors, variable frequency drives, centrifugal gas compressors, and standby generatorsKnowledge and experience in cathodic protection systems, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshootingAbility to conduct surveys and inspections to assess the effectiveness of cathodic protection systemsProficiency in using equipment and tools related to cathodic protection, such as voltmeters, reference electrodes, and data loggersUnderstanding of industry standards and regulations related to cathodic protectionCapability to interpret technical drawings and specifications related to cathodic protection systemsExperience in preparing reports and documentation for cathodic protection activitiesThis position requires candidates to Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving recordSuccessfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testingBe subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and extended workdays and/or workweeks for emergency response purposesTravel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from homeBe subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures, heavy lifting (50 pounds), and cramped conditionsDriving a motor vehicle is an essential job function of this position.
