Job summary

TC Energy is seeking a multiskilled Mechanical Technician for the USGO Heartland - Rock River Valley Area. You will maintain, overhaul and troubleshoot compressor station equipment, work with electricians and hydraulics, coordinate with gas control, and manage on-site contractors.

A strong safety mindset and ability to work with minimal supervision are essential. Applicants should have a high school diploma, related industry experience, and familiarity with lockout/tagout procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, overhaul and repair of compressor station equipment.
• Dismantle, clean, inspect and replace worn parts.
• Troubleshoot electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic control systems.
• Coordinate with gas control for maintenance scheduling.

This position is overtime eligible and extended work hours may be required on occasion without advance notice including nights, weekends and holidays.What you’ll do Perform maintenance, overhaul and repair of compressor station equipment by performing such duties as: dismantling compressor station equipment, cleaning parts, inspecting vital parts for wear, repairing and/or replacing worn engine parts, fitting, realigning and assembling equipment, starting up, checking and adjusting equipment for proper operation (setting ignition, timing, injection valve clearance, etc.)Compile or furnish information for miscellaneous reports and formsWork from blueprints and construction drawingsInspect for gas leaks and assist in maintaining safety equipmentPerform preventative maintenance and overhaul of engines using micrometers, dial indicators, and miscellaneous hand toolsTroubleshoot automatic control systems (electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic), locating defective parts and correcting troublePossess an in-depth understanding of the entire facility in order to operate, repair, train, and develop others.Manage contractors and vendors while on-siteAdhere to environmental policies by collecting samplesAssist in the compilation of shipping manifestsAssist in planning of work and participate as necessary in safety and/or team meetings and discussionsCoordinate with gas control regarding the scheduling of maintenance to ensure operation of facility is at peak at all timesPerform valve and operator maintenanceTest overpressure protection devices and unit controls in accordance with recommended guidelinesOrder/reorder necessary parts and suppliesTest and inspect lubricating systemsExecute all planned preventative maintenance on prime movers or other equipment such as web deflections, bump checks, crank shaft alignments, etc.Inspect, maintain, and fix station auxiliary equipment (air compressors, air dryers, generator, boiler)Compile station operating budget and various annual operating reportsComplete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP and complete the required formsPerform LOTO on equipmentComplete Job Safety Analysis for tasksLine locating and excavation monitoring as necessaryWill be required to carry a company provided cell phone and to work a rotating on-call scheduleOther tasks as requiredMinimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalentDemonstrated work experience in a related industryThorough understanding of stop work authority (SWA) and safe work practicesKnowledge and understanding of lock out/tag out (LOTO) procedureExperience in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related softwareWorking knowledge of operations and maintenance of gas engines, compressors, automatic control equipment, and other auxiliary equipment operated by internal combustion enginesAbility to understand piping operating drawingsRelevant natural gas or energy industry experienceAbility to work self-guided with minimal supervisionBasic knowledge of instrumentation and electrical troubleshootingPreferred QualificationsExperience in maintaining and troubleshooting large-bore reciprocating enginesKnowledge of internal combustion engines, centrifugal gas compressors, and standby generatorsIndustrial experience in a plant environmentAbility to interpret technical reference documentsAbility to work self-guided with minimal supervisionMedium voltage electrical experience involving switchgear, frequency drives, transformers, and other medium voltage equipment associated with electrically driven compressor units This position requires candidates toHave and maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving recordSuccessfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testingBe subject to call out on a rotational schedule and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposesTravel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from homeBe subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures and cramped conditionsDriving a motor vehicle is an essential job function of this position.
