Job summary

Vulcan Elements Inc. in North Carolina seeks a Mechanical Systems Engineer (water) to design, build out, commission, and operate cooling water and industrial gas systems at the Benson facility. The role demands strong ownership of system design, performance, and safety to meet production needs.

You will develop distribution layouts, review drawings, size equipment, and coordinate with suppliers and engineers. On-site work, startup support, and ongoing operations are core to this position.

Qualifications

• Reading P&IDs, mechanical drawings, specifications and equipment documentation.
• Experience with cooling water, chilled water and industrial gas systems in a manufacturing setting.
• Ability to work onsite and support construction, commissioning, startup and operations.

Responsibilities

• Own and act as technical owner for facility cooling water and industrial gas systems.
• Support design, installation, commissioning and startup of chillers, pumps, heat exchangers, piping, valves and controls.
• Develop layouts, flow requirements, and operating parameters for distribution systems.
• Coordinate cooling and gas requirements with suppliers, partners, contractors and internal stakeholders.
• Review P&IDs, drawings, submittals and calculations; support sizing and equipment selection.
• Provide field engineering support during construction, flushing, testing and startup.
• Troubleshoot performance, reliability, water quality and capacity issues; implement improvements.
