Job description

The Mechanical Superintendent provides input and technical expertise for mechanical construction work on utility-scale solar EPC projects. Provides technical owner correspondence support. On-site supervision of Field Engineers and General Foremen to ensure a safe, productive, and quality job is attained and costs are controlled in the construction discipline for the project site. Schedule’s labor, materials, tools, equipment, and subcontractors within work discipline to effectively utilize all resources; and works with specifications and contract requirements.

Job Duties

  • Supervises and sets direction for all General Foremen, Field Engineers and Foremen on-site to ensure best use of all company resources, and adherence to all company policies and state and federal regulations. Provides formal coaching feedback to General Foremen, Field Engineers and Foremen as well as regular informal feedback.
  • Schedule’s equipment, materials, tools, and subcontractors to effectively utilize all resources and to maximize production and minimize costs after becoming familiar with scope of work and site Will collaborate with other projects to appropriately utilize and share resources.
  • Trains and implements standardized Work Plans and Work Assists Field Operations Manager in process improvement efforts.
  • Acts as a consultant to supervisory and field personnel in the areas of mechanical scopes of work.
  • Responsible for safe working conditions and safety procedures on the project, more particularly for specific Understands and enforces company, jobsite specific, federal, and state safety regulations on site and discusses concerns with Site Manager. Will be responsible within work discipline for the utilization of best safety practices: the management of employee training for work methods, emphasis on special risks, cranes, lifting, DOT requirements, site conditions, telehandlers, JHA’s, accident injury management, electrical safety hazard, LOTO, arc flash (all as apply).
  • Communicates with Site Manager to update him/her on project problem areas and the specific status of the Collaborates with Site Manager, other Trade Superintendents, General Superintendents, and other supervision to plan and staff (hiring, promoting, disciplining, terminating) trade employees through the proper utilization of company resources, processes, and policies.
  • Assist Site Manager in communicating and negotiating with owner regarding major project
  • Display a professional demeanor and act professionally while interacting with internal and external The Superintendent is expected to create a collaborative environment with craft, subcontractors, vendors, and the Owner to continually improve the company’s delivery performance.
  • Compares actual costs to the job estimate for specific discipline and informs the Site Manager of cost over-runs and the utilization of company resources.
  • The Superintendent is accountable for verifying that the project construction activities and project engineering are in conformance with the project Quality Plan, and Work Superintendents are responsible for establishing, aligning, and communicating the project specifications and craftsmanship expectations to all craft workers, vendors, subcontractors, and other agents. Superintendents shall assist in assembling the close-out information needed for various meetings.
  • Mentors Field Coordinator/Field Engineers and General Foremen on work discipline, production costs, scope of work, quality, and safety.
  • Understands scope of work per the Identifies potential change orders and informs the Site Manager.
  • Familiarize themselves with site conditions.
  • May at times act as a project leader in the absence of the Site Manager.
  • Participate in RFI development and technical accuracy.
  • Support economic conditions by hiring locally, attending job fairs, and attending public information meetings.
  • Establish and maintain crew and equipment matrixes, comparing information back to established Work Plans and updating Operations Analysis as needed.
  • May at times visit proposed project sites to support Estimating and Business Development.
  • Become a project liaison with key community leaders and local landowners.

Qualifications

  • Prior Solar EPC mechanical construction oversight
  • Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
  • Ability to supervise many employees.
  • Thorough knowledge of tools and equipment uses and limitations.
  • Good communication skills to deal with owners and employees.
  • Possess a solid understanding of job costing.
  • Relocation to community of project site is required.
  • May be required to become a qualified individual in pursuit of a company contract licensing, or journeyman or master electrician license.
  • Ability to read and understand prints and contract documents.
  • Knows and understand the required federal and state codes for the project.
