The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating field operations for mechanical construction projects, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal systems. This position provides leadership to field personnel, foremen, subcontractors, and vendors while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company standards, contract requirements, and applicable codes.
The Mechanical Superintendent serves as a key on-site representative of the company and works closely with project managers, general contractors, owners, inspectors, design teams, and other trades to support successful project delivery.
Responsible for direct mentorship of foremen
Responsibility for establishing systems of training and mentorship for our field team members
Responsible for administering monthly field training
Responsible for evaluation and development of our field team members via the career paths
Responsible to hire/acquire talent to fill open field positions in the company. Conduct or delegate each field team interview
Responsible for staffing their team as directed by the Director of Construction
Visit all project sites weekly and as needed and ensure our field team's concerns and needs are being met by the project teams
Every time the Supt is on site, they should have a conversation with their customer counterpart (either Superintendent, General Superintendent or job field leader)
Assists Preconstruction and estimating as needed for feedback with respect to constructability
Assist DOC and other team members to develop and implement new processes
This position has full authority to conduct annual performance reviews, build quarterly goals, and make requests for pay increases to the Director of Construction for their direct report. Authorized to fully follow disciplinary form and process for any direct or indirect report. This position will be fully responsible for staffing their team as directed by the Director of Construction.
Direct report: Foremen
Indirect report: Mechanics and Apprentices
Master’s certification in HVAC, Plumbing, or relevant trade highly preferred
Experience in managing commissioning preferred.
OSHA certifications
Proficiency in Procore preferred
This position requires regular work on active construction sites. The employee may be exposed to weather conditions, noise, dust, elevated work areas, and other typical construction-site conditions. The role may require climbing ladders, working at heights, standing or walking for extended periods, and lifting or carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Occasional evening, weekend, or extended hours may be required to meet project schedules. Travel between project locations may also be necessary.
