What You’ll Do

The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating field operations for mechanical construction projects, including HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal systems. This position provides leadership to field personnel, foremen, subcontractors, and vendors while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company standards, contract requirements, and applicable codes.

The Mechanical Superintendent serves as a key on-site representative of the company and works closely with project managers, general contractors, owners, inspectors, design teams, and other trades to support successful project delivery.

Safety, Production, and Quality
  • Direct and coordinate daily field activities for mechanical construction projects.
  • Supervise field crews, foremen, subcontractors, and other site personnel.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture in accordance with company policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Conduct or support daily safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and toolbox talks.
  • Plan manpower, materials, equipment, and work sequencing to meet project milestones.
  • Maintain short-term look-ahead schedules and coordinate work with other trades.
  • Interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and BIM coordination models.
  • Monitor installation quality and ensure work complies with approved plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, start-up, commissioning, punch-list activities, and project closeout.
  • Identify field conflicts and assist with RFIs, design clarifications, change orders, and field modifications.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, equipment placement, rigging activities, and site logistics.
  • Track labor, productivity, material usage, and project progress.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, safety records, inspection documentation, photographs, redlines, and as-built information.
  • Communicate regularly with project management and provide updates regarding schedule, manpower, productivity, quality, and potential risks.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with clients, general contractors, vendors, inspectors, and subcontractors.
  • Support employee development by coaching, mentoring, and providing direction to field personnel.
  • Assist with owner training, operations and maintenance documentation, demobilization, and final turnover.
Scheduling
  • Responsibility to assign Labor to ConnectTeams, Maintain ConnectTeams, Schedule our team as required
  • Provide weekly labor forecasting via ConnectTeams
  • Assist PM and Foremen with project planning for all projects
  • Assist PM and Foremen with developing project schedules
  • Provide PM with input to monthly financial forecasting
  • Approve all Weekly Timesheets from their assigned projects
Field Leadership and Training

Responsible for direct mentorship of foremen

Responsibility for establishing systems of training and mentorship for our field team members

Responsible for administering monthly field training

Responsible for evaluation and development of our field team members via the career paths

Hiring and Staffing

Responsible to hire/acquire talent to fill open field positions in the company. Conduct or delegate each field team interview

Responsible for staffing their team as directed by the Director of Construction

Site Visits and Customer Coordination

Visit all project sites weekly and as needed and ensure our field team's concerns and needs are being met by the project teams

Every time the Supt is on site, they should have a conversation with their customer counterpart (either Superintendent, General Superintendent or job field leader)

Process Improvement and Preconstruction Support

Assists Preconstruction and estimating as needed for feedback with respect to constructability

Assist DOC and other team members to develop and implement new processes

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has full authority to conduct annual performance reviews, build quarterly goals, and make requests for pay increases to the Director of Construction for their direct report. Authorized to fully follow disciplinary form and process for any direct or indirect report. This position will be fully responsible for staffing their team as directed by the Director of Construction.

Requirements
What We’re Looking For
  • Seven or more years of experience in mechanical construction.
  • At least three years of experience in a foreman, general foreman, or superintendent role.
  • Experience with commercial, industrial, institutional, healthcare, education, data center, or similar mechanical projects.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, piping, hydronic, steam, process piping, or related mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, submittals, schedules, and coordinated drawings.
  • Knowledge of applicable construction codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead crews, coordinate multiple trades, and resolve field issues.
  • Strong verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a mechanical apprenticeship or technical training program preferred.
  • Ability to travel between job sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications and Certifications
  • Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud/BIM 360, PlanGrid, or similar construction software.
  • Brazing, welding, confined-space, aerial-lift, or forklift certifications.

Physical & Work Conditions

This position requires regular work on active construction sites. The employee may be exposed to weather conditions, noise, dust, elevated work areas, and other typical construction-site conditions. The role may require climbing ladders, working at heights, standing or walking for extended periods, and lifting or carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Occasional evening, weekend, or extended hours may be required to meet project schedules. Travel between project locations may also be necessary.
