Job summary

Dewberry is seeking a Mechanical Subject Matter Expert - Principal Engineer in Nashville to lead the MEPS team within the office. You will provide technical leadership across projects, mentor mechanical staff, and serve as Engineer of Record on select projects.

The role requires licensure as a P.E. with prior experience managing multiple projects and growing a team. Collaboration with executives and industry organizations is expected.

Responsibilities

• Technical leadership and mentoring of the mechanical staff; provide guidance and oversight across projects to achieve quality and performance.
• Technical interface with code officials and contractors; participate in design reviews and code compliance.
• Develop and deliver technical training and staff development related to mechanical engineering.
• Serve as Engineer of Record on select projects as needed.
• Support staff development through coaching and mentoring of managers; ensure training and competency growth.
• Establish and improve standards, practices, guidelines, and specifications for the Mechanical discipline; lead office-wide standard development and coordination with Chief Engineer.
• Ensure compliance with corporate quality management processes and procedures.
• Engage with local and national technical organizations (e.g., ASHRAE); participate in conferences as an industry thought leader.
• Recruit and develop technical staff and project managers to deliver project commitments.
• Provide on-the-spot technical and cost guidance; act as the top mechanical engineer in the office.
• Consult with clients on project goals, design concepts, and project economics; evaluate opportunities and Go/No Go determinations based on qualifications and strategy.
• Coordinate with client/project managers and department managers to resolve mechanical engineering conflicts.
• Advise senior leadership on growth strategies; assist in office operations and staff organization.
• Lead inter-office MEPS Mechanical community of practice and contribute to service line operations.

Required Skills & Required Experience

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity within six (6) months.
• Experience overseeing multiple projects with a track record of meeting specifications and growing a team.
