Job summary

Dewberry’s Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Structural (MEPS) team in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to provide technical guidance and mentoring to design resources. You will work with a team of engineers on healthcare and commercial projects, coordinating with architectural, mechanical, and structural disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.

The role involves acting as Engineer of Record, reviewing designs, and guiding staff to meet client desires and budgets

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) or ability to obtain licensure within six months.
• 7+ years of progressive electrical design experience for healthcare and commercial projects.
• Experience managing multiple projects with ability to meet client specs and budgets.
• Strong written and verbal communication and leadership abilities.

Dewberry’s Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Structural (MEPS) team includes many offices & staff organized into a MEPS service line focused on nationwide clients in specialized facility types and specialized MEPS design services. Because our backlog continues to grow and the demand for our expertise is accelerating, we are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Birmingham, AL office. The overriding responsibility will be providing technical guidance and training/mentoring of our design resources in all areas of project work we do associated with electrical engineering. Assist the Project/Client Managers by providing technical guidance to help meet the client’s desires and budget. Work with a team of engineers on a variety of private, public, and federal projects. In addition to working with electrical engineers, this individual will team with architectural, mechanical, structural, and other disciplines to provide full-range services to our local and regional clients. In short, provide technical guidance associated with electrical requirements to accomplish our commitments. Will report to the Electrical Discipline Manager.

Responsibilities

• Technical guidance and quality oversight, including code review, of all project work involving electrical engineering.
• Technical training and development of staff.
• Assist in establishing and improving standards, practices, guidelines, and specifications for electrical discipline area.
• Engineer of Record.
• Provide 'on-the-spot' advice and decisions - technical and cost estimates.
• Coordination with all the disciplines involved, including outside consultants.
• Technical interface with code officials and contractors.

Required Skills & Required Experience

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity (example through Comity) within the State in which the position is posted within six (6) months.
• Accomplished electrical engineer.
• 7+ years of progressive technical experience in the design of power distribution, multiple generator powerhouses, multi-building medium voltage campus distribution, fault studies, selective overcurrent coordination studies, load flow studies, arc flash studies, lighting, life safety, and telecommunications systems on healthcare and commercial projects.
• Experience should include management of multiple projects with proven success providing technical oversight on projects that meet contract specifications and technical standards to the client on time and within budget.
• Self-motivated with highly developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
