Job summary

Zekelman Industries, through its Z Modular division, seeks a Mechanical Project Manager in Austin, TX to oversee mechanical engineering activities from pre-design through commissioning. This role requires coordinating with engineering, manufacturing, construction, vendors, consultants, and clients to deliver complex modular building projects.

You will lead HVAC, plumbing, ventilation, hydronic systems design coordination, manage scope, schedules and budgets, ensure code compliance, and support

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum 6 years of mechanical engineering or project management experience.
  • Experience with HVAC, plumbing, and building systems.
  • Knowledge of codes and standards; data center/modular experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee mechanical design through fabrication, installation, testing and commissioning.
  • Lead design deliverables and coordination with architects, structural, electrical, and construction teams.
  • Review drawings, specifications, submittals and shop drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with mechanical, plumbing, building codes and safety requirements.

Hospitals, hotels, schools, bridges, airports and more.Come build a career you believe in.About The Role:As a Mechanical Project Manager at Z Modular, a division of Zekelman Industries, you will oversee mechanical engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle while serving as a critical liaison between engineering, manufacturing, construction, vendors, consultants, and clients. This position is local to Austin, TX.What You'll Do:Manage mechanical engineering projects from pre-design through fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning.Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical design deliverables for modular building projects.Oversee the design and integration of HVAC, plumbing, ventilation, hydronic, and related mechanical building systems.Develop and manage project scope, schedules, budgets, milestones, priorities, and deliverables.Coordinate mechanical engineering efforts with architectural, structural, electrical, manufacturing, and construction teams.Serve as the primary point of contact for consultants, vendors, contractors, clients, and project stakeholders.Review mechanical plans, specifications, design calculations, equipment schedules, shop drawings, submittals, and fabrication documents.Ensure designs comply with applicable mechanical, plumbing, building, energy, and industry codes and standards.Proactively identify project risks, resolve issues, and implement corrective actions to maintain project objectives.Support equipment selection and coordination of mechanical materials, components, and systems.Develop and maintain project schedules, documentation, engineering standards, budgets, and progress reports.Lead design reviews, project meetings, coordination sessions, and issue resolution activities.Support standardization initiatives and continuous improvement efforts related to mechanical design and project execution.Collaborate closely with manufacturing and field teams to ensure constructability, installation requirements, and project objectives are achieved.Provide technical leadership and project support during fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning activities.Perform site visits, field verification, troubleshooting, and project oversight at manufacturing facilities and active construction sites.Communicate project status, schedule impacts, risks, and key decisions to leadership and stakeholders.Champion safe work practices and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.What You'll BringRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.Professional Engineer (PE) license required, with the ability to obtain licensure in additional jurisdictions.Minimum of 6 years of experience in mechanical engineering, project management, or a combination of both.Demonstrated experience managing mechanical design projects involving HVAC, plumbing, ventilation, and related building systems.Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams, contractors, consultants, vendors, manufacturing teams, and construction personnel.Strong understanding of applicable mechanical, plumbing, energy, and building codes and standards.Eligibility to work in the United States.Preferred QualificationsExperience with data center projects, modular construction, integrated skid systems, or prefabricated building solutions.Experience supporting commercial, industrial, multifamily, or mission-critical facilities.Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or similar project management credential.Knowledge of design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) principles.Experience supporting fabrication, field installation, and commissioning activities.Knowledge, Skills & CompetenciesSuccessful candidates will demonstrate:Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, and project management software.Knowledge of mechanical engineering analysis and design tools, including HVAC load calculation software.Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, ventilation, hydronic, and building mechanical systems.Familiarity with modular construction methods, prefabrication processes, and constructability best practices.Understanding of sustainability initiatives, energy efficiency strategies, and material selection considerations.Strong project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and organizational skills.Excellent technical problem-solving and analytical abilities.Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, schedules, codes, and contract documents.Proven collaboration skills and the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.Strong attention to detail and commitment to
