Job summary

Z Modular, a division of Zekelman Industries, is seeking a Mechanical Project Manager in Austin, TX to oversee mechanical engineering activities across the project lifecycle. You will coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, construction, vendors, and clients to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of modular building projects.

Responsibilities include leading design reviews, managing HVAC, plumbing, and related building systems, and maintaining schedules, budgets, and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • PE license required, ability to licens in additional jurisdictions.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in mechanical engineering or project management.
  • Experience coordinating HVAC, plumbing, ventilation and related building systems.

  • Oversee mechanical engineering projects from design through fabrication, installation, testing and commissioning.

This position is local to Austin, TX.**What You'll Do:*** Manage mechanical engineering projects from pre-design through fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning.* Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical design deliverables for modular building projects.* Oversee the design and integration of HVAC, plumbing, ventilation, hydronic, and related mechanical building systems.* Develop and manage project scope, schedules, budgets, milestones, priorities, and deliverables.* Coordinate mechanical engineering efforts with architectural, structural, electrical, manufacturing, and construction teams.* Serve as the primary point of contact for consultants, vendors, contractors, clients, and project stakeholders.* Review mechanical plans, specifications, design calculations, equipment schedules, shop drawings, submittals, and fabrication documents.* Ensure designs comply with applicable mechanical, plumbing, building, energy, and industry codes and standards.* Proactively identify project risks, resolve issues, and implement corrective actions to maintain project objectives.* Support equipment selection and coordination of mechanical materials, components, and systems.* Develop and maintain project schedules, documentation, engineering standards, budgets, and progress reports.* Lead design reviews, project meetings, coordination sessions, and issue resolution activities.* Support standardization initiatives and continuous improvement efforts related to mechanical design and project execution.* Collaborate closely with manufacturing and field teams to ensure constructability, installation requirements, and project objectives are achieved.* Provide technical leadership and project support during fabrication, installation, testing, and commissioning activities.* Perform site visits, field verification, troubleshooting, and project oversight at manufacturing facilities and active construction sites.* Communicate project status, schedule impacts, risks, and key decisions to leadership and stakeholders.* Champion safe work practices and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.**What You'll Bring****Required Qualifications*** Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.* Professional Engineer (PE) license required, with the ability to obtain licensure in additional jurisdictions.* Minimum of 6 years of experience in mechanical engineering, project management, or a combination of both.* Demonstrated experience managing mechanical design projects involving HVAC, plumbing, ventilation, and related building systems.* Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams, contractors, consultants, vendors, manufacturing teams, and construction personnel.* Strong understanding of applicable mechanical, plumbing, energy, and building codes and standards.* Eligibility to work in the United States.**Preferred Qualifications*** Experience with data center projects, modular construction, integrated skid systems, or prefabricated building solutions.* Experience supporting commercial, industrial, multifamily, or mission-critical facilities.* Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or similar project management credential.* Knowledge of design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) principles.* Experience supporting fabrication, field installation, and commissioning activities.**Knowledge, Skills & Competencies****Successful candidates will demonstrate:*** Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, and project management software.* Knowledge of mechanical engineering analysis and design tools, including HVAC load calculation software.* Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, ventilation, hydronic, and building mechanical systems.* Familiarity with modular construction methods, prefabrication processes, and constructability best practices.* Understanding of sustainability initiatives, energy efficiency strategies, and material selection considerations.* Strong project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and organizational skills.* Excellent technical problem-solving and analytical abilities.* Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.* Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.* Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, schedules, codes, and contract documents.* Proven collaboration skills and the ability
