Job summary

Sappi is seeking a Project Engineer to provide engineering support for the Cloquet Mill. You will manage capital projects from scoping through start-up, coordinating designers, vendors, consultants and contractors while ensuring safety, cost competitiveness and timely delivery.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and 2+ years of related experience, with proficiency in SAP, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (required).
• Minimum 2 years of related experience; industrial project management preferred.
• Experience in leadership and teamwork.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SAP and AutoCAD.
• Experience with problem-solving and decision-making techniques (e.g., Kepner-Tregoe, Six Sigma).
• Root cause analysis and collaboration with operations/maintenance.
• Budget planning and reconciliation of expenditures.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage capital projects through all phases from pre-feasibility to close-out.
• Develop scope of work, schedules, and estimates for budgeting.
• Provide technical engineering and project management oversight for design, installation, and maintenance of plant systems.
• Assist with troubleshooting related to operations and maintenance.
• Work within multiple project timelines.
• Prioritize safety in all aspects of the job, including safety reviews and implementation.
