Job summary

Sappi is seeking a Project Engineer to provide engineering support for the Cloquet Mill. You will manage capital projects from scoping through start-up, coordinating designers, vendors, consultants and contractors while ensuring safety, cost competitiveness and timely delivery.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and 2+ years of related experience, with proficiency in SAP, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential.

Qualifications

Job description

This position will provide Project Engineering support for the Cloquet Mill. Main duties include engineering and managing capital projects from scoping through successful start-up. Work will consist of managing designers, vendors, consultants, and contractors as required to complete projects in a safe, cost competitive, and timely manner. Occasional maintenance technical support will also be required.

Responsibilities

• Manage capital projects through all phases including pre-feasibility study, conceptual design, execution planning, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, optimization, and close-out.
• Develop scope of work, schedules, and estimates for capital projects as required for budgeting
• Provide technical engineering and project management oversight for the design, installation, and maintenance of plant systems.
• Assist with troubleshooting related to operations and maintenance
• Work within multiple project timelines
• Make safety a priority in all aspects of the job – from personal safety, managing vendors and contractors, and ensuring project are installed and implemented with proper safety reviews and considerations.

Experience And Education Requirements / Preferences

• A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
• A minimum of 2 years' related experience; industrial project management experience is preferred.
• Experience in applying leadership and team skills.
• A working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project), SAP, and AutoCAD
• Experience with problem solving and decision-making techniques (ie. Kepner Tregoe, six Sigma, etc)
• Perform root cause analysis and work with operations and maintenance to resolve repetitive issues and increase quality and productivity
• Proficiency in the development and management of long-term plans and budgets, project management, and the reconciliation of actual expenditures to budget
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are required.
• Mechanical Engineer: piping design, process design, HVAC, ASME, and maintenance
