About The Role
A well-established specialty chemical manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join its Project Engineering team at a large-scale chemical manufacturing facility in Batesville, Arkansas.
This role will provide mechanical engineering support across manufacturing, utilities, maintenance, and capital projects. The ideal candidate will have experience working in an industrial manufacturing environment and strong knowledge of mechanical equipment, pressure vessels, fluid systems, and process-related engineering.
A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required, along with 6+ years of engineering experience. Experience in the chemical or process manufacturing industry is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide mechanical engineering support to Manufacturing, Utilities, and Maintenance teams.
- Support process improvements, manufacturing operations, equipment reliability, and production efficiency.
- Manage and support the facility's Pressure Vessel Program, including:
- Pressure vessel calculations and evaluations
- Relief device selection and calculations
- Conservation vents
- Flame arrestors
- Rupture disks
- Pressure vessel database management
- Participate in Process Safety Reviews and provide engineering input related to safe implementation of mechanical designs.
- Evaluate, select, and specify new mechanical equipment and systems.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and identify root causes of equipment or process problems.
- Apply engineering principles to evaluate alternative designs and determine the most effective solutions.
- Provide engineering support for pumps, heat exchangers, centrifuges, piping systems, pressure relief equipment, and other industrial equipment.
- Support capital projects designed to improve production capacity, process efficiency, mechanical integrity, safety, and energy utilization.
- Assist with occasional civil and structural engineering requirements.
- Perform process economics and cost/value analysis for proposed projects.
- Manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously while communicating progress to internal stakeholders.
- Work closely with manufacturing, maintenance, utilities, and other engineering teams to support reliable plant operations.
- Follow established safety, quality, environmental, and engineering procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 6+ years of engineering experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with industrial mechanical equipment and systems.
- Knowledge of:
- Pressure vessels
- Pumps and fluid flow
- Heat exchangers
- Centrifuges
- Piping systems
- Pressure relief devices
- Materials of construction
- Industrial equipment specification and design
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems and determine root causes.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction; U.S. Citizenship or Green Card required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in chemical processing, specialty chemicals, petrochemical, refining, or other process manufacturing environments.
- Experience with pressure vessel engineering and process safety programs.
- Experience with equipment specification, mechanical integrity, and plant engineering projects.
- Experience supporting capital projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Familiarity with process modeling and fluid flow analysis.
- Exposure to civil/structural engineering within an industrial facility.
