Job summary

Schaeffler is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in the United States to develop competitive products. You will structure mechanical systems from architecture, break down subsystems, and create detailed specifications while ensuring traceability and reuse of components.

The role requires knowledge of powertrain architectures, electric machines, hydraulics, and modelling/simulation of mechatronic systems, plus strong communication and presentation skills. US work authorization is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an engineering related field.
• Applicable engineering & physics knowledge.
• Understanding of vehicle powertrain architectures and components.
• Basic understanding of electric machines and controls of hydraulics and heat transfer.
• Understanding of modelling and simulating of electric or mechatronic systems.
• Excellent communication ability (written & verbal).
• Strong presentation skills.
• Customer focused.
• External applicants must be authorized to work in the US without employment VISA or other sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Conduct mechanical design engineering activities required to develop competitive products.
• Develop the structure of the mechanical system from the architecture and consider risk analysis measures in construction.
• Break down structures into subsystems and components and create a detailed product specification.
• Check whether existing subsystems and components can be reused.
• Develop alternative structures and select the most suitable one.
• Ensure double-sided traceability with the mechanical architecture and provide results under configuration management.
