Job summary

NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking a Supervisor of Mechanics (Mechanical Equipment) in the Distribution Engineering Unit to supervise Machinists, Helpers and Laborers responsible for inspection, maintenance, overhaul and repair of water supply equipment across five boroughs. The role includes planning, scheduling and inventory tasks while enforcing safety standards.

The position requires substantial supervisory experience in mechanical trades and a valid NYS driver

Qualifications

• Seven years of full-time satisfactory experience as an Auto Machinist, Auto Mechanic, Auto Mechanic (Diesel), Electrician (Automobile) or Machinist, two years supervisory experience.
• At least five years of experience as described above plus relevant training or education to make up the equivalent of the remaining experience; two years supervisory experience required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Machinists, Machinist’s Helpers and Laborers in inspection, maintenance, overhaul and repair of water supply equipment.
• Prepare and track job orders, work schedules, assignments and parts inventories.
• Ensure adherence to EH&S policies and operate required power equipment and vehicles.
