Job summary

Ellsworth Dispensing Solutions, a division of Ellsworth Corporation, in Sparks, NV, offers a Mechanical-Manufacturing Engineer Intern opportunity. You will gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced engineering environment, using SolidWorks to develop drawings and specifications for mechanical systems and machinery.

As an intern, you will collaborate with production, prepare BOMs, and create assembly drawings. The program requires completing 150 hours over ~15 weeks, with a 4-hour daily window.

Qualifications

  • Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student at University of Nevada, Reno.
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to write and document manufacturing processes, inspection, and testing procedures.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical personnel.
  • SolidWorks certification or EIT preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Complete 150 hours of work as an intern (10-15 hours per week, 15 weeks total).
  • Create, review and updates of basic documentation including drawings, models, bill of materials, quotes and engineering summaries utilizing CAD Systems and ERP software.
  • Prepares product documentation (manuals, work instructions, assembly instructions, data sheets, etc.).
  • Prepares Bills of Materials (BOM) and parts list repositories.
  • Conducts assigned projects ensuring that work is completed within budgetary and time constraints while meeting customer and contractual demands.
  • Assess customer requirements, evaluate engineering design, and create complete drawing packages.
  • Model components to define recommended parts procurement.

Internship Description:

Gain valuable hands‑on experience in a fast‑paced engineering environment! This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to real‑world design projects. You'll work closely with experienced engineers, developing essential skills in CAD software (SolidWorks) while assisting with the design and development of mechanical systems and machinery. The intern will develop basic drawings and specifications for existing and new design projects. Additionally, the intern will assist with design of mechanical systems and/or machinery utilizing design and ERP software. You will also be working closely with the production team to see your changes take place in person. Most of the work you are updating and creating will be assembly instructions for the production team.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Complete 150 hours of work as an intern (10-15 hours per week, 15 weeks total)

  • Prepares product documentation (i.e. manuals, work instructions, assembly instructions, data sheets, etc.)

  • Assess customer requirements, evaluate engineering design, and create complete drawing packages

Goals and Expectations of the Intern:
  • Create/update 1-5 assembly and drawings per week in SolidWorks.
  • Complexity of option drawings are from 5 to 50 parts in a single drawing.
Required Qualifications:
  • Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate OR graduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno during the Spring ‘27 semester Fall ‘26 or earlier graduates are not eligible for the Wolf Pack STEM Internship Program
  • Good problem solving and analytic skills (i.e., can conduct root cause analysis, make recommendations, and track results).
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing continuous improvement methodologies
  • Ability to write and document manufacturing process, inspection, and testing procedures
  • Capability to communicate, coach, and train shop floor team members on processing information
  • Basic knowledge of electronics components and electronic assemblies.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical personnel
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certifications in SolidWorks (i.e. CSWA, CSWP, CSWE, CPPA, etc.)
  • Engineering in Training (EIT)
Desired Schedule for Intern:
  • Minimum shift of four (4) hours, M-F: 7:30am to 5:30 pm (Within that window)

Pack STEM internships require interns to complete 150 hours during their internship. It is the intern’s responsibility to ensure this requirement is met.
