Job summary

Software Placement Group seeks a Mechanical Maintenance Technician for 2nd shift in the Greater Madison, WI area. The role focuses on keeping high-speed packaging lines safe and reliable in a century-old food manufacturing setting.

On-site, full-time with a strong emphasis on GMP safety and teamwork. You will troubleshoot, repair, and optimize complex conveyors and hydraulic/pneumatic systems, performing welds as needed and collaborating with floor leadership to maintain sanitation and safety

Qualifications

• 1+ year of verifiable mechanical maintenance experience in a fast-paced production setting with hydraulics, pneumatics and conveyors.
• Ability to perform basic structural welding, torch cutting, and metal fitting for machinery repair.
• Experience in a food-safe processing environment with strict cleanliness, safety, and GMP compliance.
• Stable employment history showing attendance, safety dedication, and teamwork.
• Residence within a daily 45-minute commute of the Greater Madison, WI area.
• U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency required.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical troubleshooting, fault-tracing, and emergency repairs on high-speed packaging equipment and processing cells.
• Troubleshoot, rebuild, and optimize conveyor networks, belts, sortation lines, gearboxes, and drive assemblies.
• Inspect, overhaul, and service high-pressure pneumatic systems, valves, hydraulic pumps, cylinders, and fluid distribution loops.
• Use MIG/TIG welding to modify machinery frameworks, fabricate brackets, repair guards, and reinforce production components.
• Partner with floor leadership to ensure equipment and work areas comply with sanitation guidelines, safety protocols, and GMP standards.

Location: Greater Madison Area, WI | Schedule: Full-time, 2nd Shift, on-site | Compensation: $31.00/hour starting base rate + premium overtime (time-and-a-half after 8 daily hours, guaranteed double-time on Sundays)

Overview

An established, century-old food manufacturing company in the Greater Madison, WI area is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician for 2nd shift. This role is central to keeping high-speed processing and packaging lines running safely and reliably within a facility known for its strong safety culture, collaborative team environment, and long-tenured workforce.

What you'll do

• Perform mechanical troubleshooting, rapid fault-tracing, and emergency breakdown repairs on high-speed packaging equipment and processing cells
• Troubleshoot, rebuild, and optimize conveyor networks, high-speed belts, sortation lines, gearboxes, and mechanical drive assemblies
• Inspect, overhaul, and service high-pressure pneumatic systems, pneumatic valves, hydraulic pumps, cylinders, and fluid distribution loops
• Use MIG/TIG welding equipment to modify machinery frameworks, fabricate brackets, repair machine guards, and reinforce production components
• Partner with floor leadership to ensure equipment and work areas comply with sanitation guidelines, safety protocols, and GMP standards

Required qualifications

• 1+ year of verifiable mechanical maintenance experience in a fast-paced production setting, with core strength in hydraulics, pneumatics, and conveyors
• Demonstrated ability to perform basic structural welding, torch cutting, and metal fitting for machinery repair
• Full comfort working in a food-safe processing environment with strict commitment to cleanliness, safety, and GMP compliance
• Stable employment history showing strong attendance, safety dedication, and teamwork
• Residence within a comfortable, daily 45-minute commute of the Greater Madison, WI area
• Must have U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency (Green Card holder)

Preferred qualifications

• Prior experience in a USDA, FDA, or SQF-regulated food processing or pharmaceutical manufacturing plant
• Exposure to automated pouchers, shrink wrappers, cartoners, or rotary labeling equipment
• Basic electrical/motor controls ability, including wiring AC motors, checking fuses, and troubleshooting basic 24V/120V sensor circuits
