Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for our Toledo, OH HBI location to maximize equipment availability through maintenance engineering support and reliability initiatives.

Responsibilities include designing equipment, leading reliability projects, analyzing data, and applying industry standards, with emphasis on CMMS usage and cross-functional collaboration. This on-site role requires plant experience and strong problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 3+ years of plant-level maintenance mechanical engineering experience in the petrochemical, metals, or mineral processing industry.
• Knowledge of machinery design, statistics and project management.
• Proficiency with CMMS and reliability data analysis.
• Experience with predictive technologies (NDE/NDT, oil analysis, vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasonics, motor circuit analysis).
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to work at heights and in plant environments.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical equipment and systems including piping, vessels, rotating equipment, and conveyors.
• Lead and support reliability improvement initiatives.
• Monitor equipment health and reliability performance.
• Apply API, ASME, ANSI, and NACE standards.
• Conduct root cause analyses and equipment failure investigations.
• Utilize predictive maintenance technologies to assess condition.
• Review maintenance data to optimize preventive maintenance programs.
• Provide troubleshooting and technical guidance to operations and maintenance teams.
• Develop capital project justifications, budgets, and cost-saving initiatives.
• Coordinate with third-party reliability service providers.
• Establish best practices to improve profitability and unit performance.
• Analyze equipment history to improve critical maintenance metrics.
• Write work orders and input to execution of field work.
• Direct and coordinate work for new equipment installations or testing.
• Other duties as assigned.
