Job summary

Amtrak seeks an Assistant Superintendent Mechanical in Oakland to lead mechanical maintenance operations, ensuring safe inspection, servicing, and repair of passenger rail equipment while guiding first-line supervision and labor relations.

You will drive regulatory compliance, budgeting, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver safe, reliable service across facilities with a focus on proactive problem solving and safety culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience.
• Plus 7 years of relevant work experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of railway and rail transit rolling stock and maintenance programs.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and monitor day-to-day mechanical maintenance and inspection activities across facilities or territories.
• Lead, coach, and hold accountable first-line supervisors and represented employees.
• Ensure regulatory requirements, safety programs, and maintenance instructions are followed and deficiencies addressed.
• Manage budgets, schedules, materials, and contractor services within financial controls.
• Identify and implement process improvements and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
