The J. M. Smucker Co. in Memphis, TN, seeks a skilled maintenance professional to own packing department equipment and lead reliability efforts. You will collaborate with Engineering, drive root-cause fixes, and train technicians on maintenance practices and safety.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Owns packing department mechanical equipment and drives loss reduction with Eng.
  • Trains shift technicians on operational and maintenance skills.
  • Conducts 1:1s with maintenance technicians.
  • Signs permits for hot work, line break, and confined space entry.
  • Provides functional training on gearbox, lubrication, etc.
  • Trains technicians in AM/PM Pillar Tools.
  • Collaborates with Maintenance Planner on scope of work.
  • PM Pillar DMS ownership and safety/quality focus.
  • Supports Change Management initiatives.
  • Cross-trains with other maintenance coordinators.
  • On-call off-shift support as needed.
  • Inputs to team lead for end-of-shift handoffs.
  • Understands unit operations; explains form and function.
  • Meets plant E&T for training policies.
  • Coordinates with outside contractors; Maximo PM Owner.
  • PM Pillar member; supports OpEx and HPO systems.
  • Aims to model Operational Excellence.

Job description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Owns mechanical equipment in the Packing Department. Provides project input and collaboration with Engineering Department. Drives out losses (failures and breakdowns) within equipment and department. Understands all inputs and outputs to the packing. Uses failure and breakdown data to develop focus of work and action plans. Trains shift technicians and maintenance techs on operational and maintenance skills. Conducts 1:1s with maintenance technicians Signs permit for hot work, line break, and confined space entry. Provides key functional expertise training (gearbox, lubrication, etc.). Trains technicians on proper equipment maintenance utilizing AM / PM Pillar Tools. Work closely with the Maintenance Planner to develop scope of work for all maintenance and project work in the department. Owns a Safety or Quality Key Element and PM Pillar DMS. Participates and trains others on the importance of Change Management. Continues to train and improve department, cross train with other maintenance coordinators. On call to provide off shift support as needs arise. Provides input to team leader and technical resource for end of shift pass down. Will complete the step-up card pertaining to his/her expertise and score 4’s on 90% of the step-up card. Understands all unit operations in the Packing Department and can explain form and function. Meets with plant E&T resources to understand the plant training policies and systems. Coordinates and leads communication and work with outside contractors PM Owner in Maximo, managing all aspects of work orders system Member of PM Pillar, and understands all aspects of OpEx Understand and models Operational Excellence and HPO systems and tools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described below represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions and duties of this job. Employee is required to stand and lift frequently. Employee is required to use hands and arms for reaching/handling purposes. Employee is required to stand and walk at minimum 70% of the time. Employee must be able to work 12-hour shifts. Employee must be able to work any shift (day or night) including weekends and holidays if a business need arises. Employee must occasionally lift/push/pull or carry up to fifty (50) pounds and should be able to lift 30-35 pounds on a frequent basis. Employee must be able to squat or kneel and to bend on a frequent basis. Employee must be able to tolerate exposure to food allergens. Employee must be able to climb steps on a frequent basis as well as stand on or move around on platforms, equipment, and concrete floors.
