Job summary

Datacenter People is partnering with a European specialist data centre operator to design and deliver advanced mechanical systems for multiple data centres across France, Italy, Spain, Poland and Luxembourg. The role focuses on thermal management, energy efficiency and seamless integration with electrical and IT systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 7+ years' experience in data centre design and construction or equivalent
  • PE license or equivalent
  • LEED AP certification or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of mechanical systems for data centres.
  • Analyse cooling and air handling requirements to optimise efficiency and energy consumption.
  • Select and specify mechanical equipment based on best practices and project requirements.
  • Collaborate with electrical and IT teams to integrate mechanical systems with other infrastructures.
  • Oversee commissioning for new and upgraded mechanical systems, ensuring timelines and budgets.
  • Develop commissioning plans following industry standards and best practices.
  • Lead implementation of new technologies to enhance reliability and sustainability.
  • Analyse data and performance metrics to identify optimisation opportunities.

Job Description

Remote, France, Italy or Spain

The Client

Datacenter People is partnering with a European specialist data centre operator that delivers services through a campus model. Today they own and operate 22 data centres across France, Italy, Spain, Poland and Luxembourg.

What The Job Involves

  • Lead the design and development of conceptual and detailed mechanical systems for new and existing data centres.
  • Analyse cooling and air handling requirements to optimise efficiency, reliability, and energy consumption.
  • Select and specify mechanical equipment based on industry best practices, project requirements, and sustainability considerations.
  • Ensure mechanical system design seamlessly integrates with other systems (electrical, IT, etc.) through close collaboration with relevant teams.
  • Oversee the commissioning process for new and upgraded mechanical systems, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive commissioning plans in accordance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Identify and resolve mechanical commissioning issues efficiently to maintain project progress.
  • Collaborate with contractors and internal teams to ensure smooth construction and installation of mechanical components.
  • Stay at the forefront of the latest trends and technologies in data centre mechanical design and operation.
  • Serve as the company's internal expert on all mechanical aspects of data centres.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to internal stakeholders across various departments.
  • Represent the company in external project meetings, discussions, and negotiations with vendors and consultants.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences, ensuring transparency and understanding.
  • Manage and maintain technical documentation related to data centre mechanical systems.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in data centre mechanical systems and processes.
  • Lead the implementation of new technologies and best practices to enhance reliability, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Analyse data and performance metrics to identify areas for optimisation.

We Are Looking For Someone With

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 7+ years' of experience in data centre design and construction or equivalent experience in critical infrastructure.
  • Proven track record of success in leading and executing complex mechanical engineering projects.
  • Experience on Mechanical Systems and discipline (HVAC, CFDs, Boilers, Chillers, Pumps, CRAC / CRAH Units, Air Handling Units, etc. ).
  • Strong understanding of data centre thermal management, power distribution and fire suppression systems.
  • Experience with commissioning and startup of data centre mechanical systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent.
  • LEED AP certification or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with data centre infrastructure management software (DCIM) focusing on electrical systems.
  • Experience with project management methodologies and best practices.
