Job summary

Core Scientific, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Journeyman to service and repair a broad range of mechanical systems within data center facilities.

The role requires completing an apprenticeship and working independently on HVAC, plumbing, hydronic systems, and related equipment across multiple data centers. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, spill/leak inspections, equipment failure reporting, and collaboration with the facilities team.

Qualifications

  • Formal vocational training in the trade is required.
  • 7+ years of increasingly responsible experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to follow guidance from staff and management.
  • Basic email and MS Office knowledge.
  • Positive, professional attitude with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team.
  • Experience operating forklifts, scissor lifts, and small tools.
  • Prior military or technical school training is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Break‑fix of electro‑mechanical systems (HVAC, hydronics, appliances, doors, locks, air compressors).
  • Conduct spill and leak inspections and repairs as needed.
  • Hydronic rack cooling maintenance and commissioning.
  • Preventive maintenance on HVAC and hydronic systems (pumps, strainers, cooling towers).
  • Team scheduling and material requisition.
  • Contribute to site failure reporting (Equipment Status Log).
  • Provide mechanical project support.
  • Clean‑in‑place treatment on heat exchangers.
  • Chiller tube inspections and cleaning.
  • Site plumbing maintenance and repairs.
  • Eyewash/shower maintenance and inspections.
  • Forklift maintenance and related tasks.
  • Gas valve preventive maintenance.
  • Foster open, respectful communication within the team and across the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Mechanical Journeyman

The Mechanical Journeyman is a skilled tradesperson who has completed an apprenticeship and is fully qualified to work independently in mechanical trades such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, piping, or other mechanical systems. The Journeyman will maintain and repair a wide range of equipment and systems within Core Scientific data center facilities.

Reports to: Assistant Manager, Critical Facilities.

Minimal travel between data centers may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Break‑fix of all electro‑mechanical systems (HVAC, hydronics, appliances, rollup doors, dock locks, air compressors, etc.).
  • Conduct spill and leak detection system inspections and repairs as needed.
  • Hydronic rack cooling (Deschutes) maintenance and commissioning.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC and hydronic systems (pumps, strainers, cooling towers, etc.).
  • Team scheduling and material requisition.
  • Contribute to site failure reporting (Equipment Status Log).
  • Provide mechanical project support.
  • Clean‑in‑place treatment on heat exchangers.
  • Chiller tube inspections and cleaning.
  • Site plumbing maintenance/repair.
  • Conduct eyewash station/shower maintenance and inspections.
  • Perform forklift maintenance.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of increasingly responsible experience in the specific trade.

  • Basic understanding of email and MS Office software.
  • Positive and professional attitude with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and in a team environment.
  • Experience operating a variety of equipment, including forklifts, scissor lifts, and small hand tools.
  • Prior military or technical school training is preferred.
