Job summary

VACCO Industries in South El Monte, CA, seeks an experienced inspector to examine mechanical and electromechanical parts, subassemblies, and final assemblies for conformance to engineering standards and production specs. You will document results and support quality control.

Use precision tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and optical comparators to perform inspections with GD&T per ANSI standards; maintain inspection records and flag deviations for rework.

Qualifications

• Two-year technical certificate with 5+ years related experience, or HS diploma with 7+ years related experience.
• Proficiency in GD&T based on ANSI Y14.5.
• Experience inspecting mechanical and electromechanical parts with precision tools.

• Set up and operate test equipment utilizing hydraulic and air gauges, electrical devices, and other types of gauges and testing equipment necessary for inspection.
• Stamp or approve acceptable work or prepare paperwork for rework or rejection and note deviations from specification.
• Maintain inspection records and history for fabricated and purchased parts.

Job description

SUMMARY:

With expertise, inspects dimensional mechanical or electromechanical piece parts, subassembly or final assembly products in such areas as final inspection, precision assembly, in-process and shipping and receiving. Helps train and mentor lower-level inspectors periodically.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Inspect mechanical and electromechanical parts, piece parts, subassemblies, and assemblies for workmanship and conformance to engineering standards and production specifications.

Use precision measuring tools, coordinate measuring machines, and electronic instruments and perform inspections in accordance with authorized specifications and quality control standards.

Set up and operate test equipment utilizing hydraulic and air gages, electrical devices, and other types of gages and testing equipment necessary for inspection.

Stamp or approve acceptable work or prepare paperwork as required for rework or rejection. Note deviations from specification, purchase orders, dimensions, finishes, material or quality.

Ensures the history of the inspection process is kept up to date by properly maintaining the inspection records and history on fabricated and purchased parts.

Keeps nonconforming parts from being kept in stock by purging stock when it has been determined that it is questionable and reinspection is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Possesses in-depth knowledge of shop math to perform calculations for the inspection of parts as well as knowledge of inspection methods and gauges used in mechanical inspection to verify conformance of purchased or manufactured product to print specifications for measurements such a true position, runout, max/min material conditions, etc…. Experience with standard inspection tools such as Micrometers, Calipers, Height Gauges, Threaded Plug gages, Threaded Ring Gages, V-Blocks, Optical Comparators, Profilometers required. Must be proficient in the use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing based upon ANSI Y14.5 practices.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Two-year certificate from college or technical school; with a minimum of five (5) years of related experience and/or training; or a High School diploma or GED Certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Should be able to interpret blueprints and written specifications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee frequently is required to stand, sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Proper safety training and equipment is provided to the employee for the safe performance of required duties.
