Job summary

J&M Products, Inc. is seeking an experienced Quality Inspector to perform receiving, in-process, and final inspections on machined, fabricated, and assembled parts. You will read GD&T, specifications, and inspection plans and operate CMM and manual inspection tools to verify conformance.

The role requires attention to detail, the ability to document results accurately, and communication with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to resolve discrepancies and support continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and dimensional inspection practices for precision manufactured parts.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and inspection documentation.
  • Proficiency using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, indicators, bore gages, thread gages, and surface-plate equipment.
  • Experience operating CMM and related inspection software preferred.
  • Knowledge of first article inspection requirements, including AS9102, and inspection record documentation.

  • Identifies and communicates nonconforming product for corrective action.

Job description

Performs receiving, in-process, and final mechanical inspection of manufactured parts and assemblies to verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and customer quality requirements.

  • Performs receiving, in-process, and final inspection of machined, fabricated, and assembled product.
  • Reads and interprets engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, purchase-order requirements, work instructions, and inspection plans.
  • Uses calipers, micrometers, height gages, indicators, bore gages, thread gages, surface plates, and other precision inspection equipment.
  • Operates CMM and other dimensional inspection equipment as trained and qualified to verify product requirements.
  • Performs and documents first article inspections and supports AS9102 requirements as assigned.
  • Records inspection results accurately and maintains required lot, serial, revision, and traceability information.
  • Reviews material certifications, special-process certifications, and other objective evidence when required by the inspection plan.
  • Identifies, documents, and segregates nonconforming product and communicates discrepancies to Production, Engineering, and Quality.
  • Verifies inspection equipment is within calibration status before use and reports damaged or questionable equipment.
  • Supports root-cause analysis, corrective action, process improvement, and defect-prevention activities as requested.
  • Maintains inspection areas and equipment in a clean, organized, and controlled condition and follows all safety requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and dimensional inspection practices for precision manufactured parts.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), specifications, and inspection documentation.
  • Proficiency using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, indicators, bore gages, thread gages, and surface-plate equipment.
  • Experience operating coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and related inspection software preferred.
  • Knowledge of first article inspection requirements, including AS9102, and inspection record documentation.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, configuration control, traceability, calibration controls, and nonconforming material processes.
  • Ability to perform shop mathematics, including decimals, fractions, geometry, and basic trigonometry as required.
  • Ability to inspect close-tolerance dimensions and evaluate product against drawing and specification requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate inspection results and discrepancies clearly and professionally with Production, Engineering, and Quality personnel.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP, electronic inspection records, and quality management systems preferred.
Education & experience
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training in dimensional inspection, metrology, machining, or a related field is preferred.
  • Three to five years related mechanical inspection experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Technical aptitude to understand manufacturing processes, inspection equipment, specifications, and blueprints.
