Job summary

FM Industries is seeking a Mechanical Inspector 3 in Livermore, CA to perform precision inspection of machined parts and incoming materials. You will use calibrated measuring tools and CMMs to verify conformance to drawings and specifications.

The role requires flexibility to work off-shift, weekends, and holidays as needed. Responsibilities include data collection for FAI and FIRs, roving in-process inspection, reviewing routers, and preparing DMRs and inspection reports.

Qualifications

• ASQ Certified Quality Inspector preferred.
• 5-7 years of related experience in machining, automotive or aerospace.
• Thorough knowledge of GD&T preferred.
• CMM operation experience preferred.
• Ability to use and interpret basic measuring tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform precision mechanical inspection of machined parts and incoming materials.
• Verify conformance with specifications using calibrated measuring equipment.
• Interpret drawings and specifications, reference work instructions and travelers.
• Work off-shift, weekends, and holidays when required.
• Collect data for First Article Inspection (FAI) reports.
• Provide data for Final Inspection Reports (FIRs).
• Roving in-process inspection of parts during manufacturing.
• Inspect in-house and outsourced in-process parts.
• Review routers for upstream completion and sign-off.
• Complete Discrepant Material Report (DMR) forms for rejects.
• Inspect incoming parts for spec compliance and outgoing packaging.
• Perform surface plate and comparator setups.
• Document reports, logs, and databases.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Responsible for performing precision mechanical inspection of machined parts and incoming materials to verify compliance with specifications. Ensure conformance requirements through the use of calibrated measuring equipment and visual inspection. Interpret customer drawings and specifications, reference company work instructions, and process travelers. Must be able to work off-shift, weekends, and holidays when business demands require it.

• Basic blueprint reading and shop math (Trigonometry)
• Collect measurement data for use in First Article Inspection (FAI) reports.
• Collect and provide data required for the critical part of Final Inspection Reports (FIRs)
• Perform roving in-process inspection of parts being run in Manufacturing.
• Inspect in-house and outsource in-process production run parts.
• Review routers to ensure that upstream operations have been completed and signed off.
• Complete Discrepant Material Report (DMR) forms for rejected parts.
• Inspect incoming purchased parts for compliance with specifications.
• Inspect outgoing material for packaging and conformance to requirements.
• Perform surface plate and comparator setups.
• Fill out and file required reports, logs, databases, forms, and documents.
• Basic CMM alignment & manual CMM measurements
• Comply with applicable environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations, Company policy, and accepted safe work practices.

Qualifications:

• ASQ Certified Quality Inspector Certification preferred
• 5-7 years of related work experience preferably in a machining, automotive or aerospace business
• Thorough knowledge of GD&T preferred
• CMM operation experience preferred
• Ability to correctly uses and interpret basic measuring tools, including weight gauge, micrometer, caliper scale (linear), gauge blocks, thread gauges and comparative standards
