Job summary

FM Industries in Fremont, CA is seeking a Mechanical Inspector 2 to perform precision inspection of machined parts and incoming materials, ensuring conformance to specifications using calibrated measuring tools and CMM where required.

The role requires reading blueprints, basic shop math, and attention to detail, with 3–5 years of related experience in machining, automotive, or aerospace environments. Monday–Friday shifts and competitive hourly pay are offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED equivalent, or Technical School.
• 3-5 years of related work experience, preferably in a machining, automotive, or aerospace business.
• Thorough knowledge of GD&T preferred.
• CMM operation experience preferred.
• Ability to correctly use and interpret basic measuring tools (weight gauge, micrometer, caliper scale, gauge blocks, thread gauges, etc.).
• Ability to interact with fellow employees and customers professionally.
• Semi-independent; can work with limited supervision and direction.

Days: Mon-Fri 6:00am to 2:30pm; Swing: Mon-Fri 2:00pm to 10:30pm; Weekends: Fri-Sun 8am to 8pm

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Responsible for performing precision mechanical inspection of machined parts and incoming materials to verify compliance with specifications. Ensure conformance requirements through the use of calibrated measuring equipment and visual inspection. Interpret customer drawings and specifications, reference company work instructions, and process travelers.

• Basic blueprint reading & and shop math (Trigonometry)
• Inspect first-off parts from manufacturing work centers.
• Collect measurement data for use in First Article Inspection (FAI) reports.
• Collect and provide data required for the critical part of Final Inspection Reports (FIRs)
• Complete customer-required parts to print data forms and send them with parts.
• Perform roving in-process inspection of parts being run in Manufacturing.
• Inspect in-house and outsource in-process production run parts.
• Review routers to ensure that upstream operations have been completed and signed off.
• Complete Discrepant Material Report (DMR) forms for rejected parts.
• Inspect incoming purchased parts for compliance with specifications.
• Inspect outgoing material for packaging and conformance to requirements.
• Perform surface plate and comparator setups.
• Fill out and file required reports, logs, databases, forms, and documents.
• Report safety or process control concerns to the Inspection Team Leader or Plant Quality Manager
• Basic CMM alignment & manual CMM measurement
