Job summary

Randstad USA is seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical Inspector to perform precision inspections of machined, fabricated, and assembled components to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, military specifications, and quality standards before integration into high-reliability electronic assemblies.

The role conducts First Article Inspections (FAI), utilizes micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, and surface plates, and maintains meticulous inspection records.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform dimensional and visual inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators and surface plates.
• Verify parts against engineering drawings and GD&T specifications.
• Conduct First Article Inspections (FAI) per AS9100/ AS9102 standards.
• Document non-conformances and assist in root-cause investigations.
• Validate plating, finishing, paint and surface treatments per specs.
• Maintain complete inspection records in QA databases.
• Collaborate with engineering, QA and machining to resolve quality issues.

Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical Inspector to perform precision inspection of machined, fabricated, and assembled components. In this role, you will verify that incoming, in-process, and finished mechanical parts comply with engineering drawings, military specifications, and quality standards before integration into high-reliability electronic assemblies.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform dimensional and visual inspections of raw materials, machined parts, hardware, and mechanical assemblies using standard measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators, and surface plates).
• Verify parts against engineering blueprints, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) specifications, and internal work instructions.
• Conduct first article inspections (FAI) in accordance with industry standards (e.g., AS9100 / AS9102 requirements).
• Identify, document, and segregate non-conforming materials; originate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and assist in root-cause analysis when necessary.
• Validate plating, finishing, paint, and surface treatment quality against customer and military specifications.
• Maintain complete and accurate inspection records, stamps, and logs in the quality management system database.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineering, quality assurance, and machining teams to resolve technical quality discrepancies promptly.

salary: $55,000 - $78,000 per year

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections of components to ensure compliance to drawings, customer specifications and workmanship standards.
• Ability of using precision measurement instruments such as a caliper, micrometer, and other required gages applicable to measurements.
• Familiar with mechanical measuring equipment such as Optical Gaging Product (OGP), and/or X-ray fluorescence (XRF), testing used to determine the elemental composition of materials.
• Knowledge and understanding of different materials used in manufacturing (aluminum, brass, copper, etc.).
• Knowledge and understanding of tolerances and basic GD&T of blueprint drawings.
• Visual inspection for workmanship and print compliance with aid of a microscope if applicable.
• Maintain inspection logs and records.
• Familiar with industry standards such as Mil Specs, IPC-A-610 and MIL-STD-883.
• Additional tasks assigned by your supervisor/manager.
