Mechanical Inspector

Location: Pittsburgh, PA | Full-Time/Regular

Position Summary

JMT is currently seeking a Mechanical/HVAC Construction Inspector to carry out Construction Management and Inspection Services in the Pittsburgh, PA region. Projects may include public housing, education, airport, rail/transportation and other public building projects. Experience should include inspections of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, fueling systems, and baggage handling systems.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Read and interpret plans and specs and prepare written contract administration documentation such as daily narratives, special inspection reports, daily time and material records, document unit price work and verify that all mechanical work aligns with approved drawings and design documents
• Ensure installations comply with project specifications, ASHRAE, NFPA, and local building codes
• Identify potential extra work issues and keep the Resident Engineer/PM advised of potential issues
• Prepare estimates of extra work and related sketches and documentation
• Review plans for constructability and prepare comments
• Review contractor payment requests and provide comments to the Resident Engineer/PM
• Oversee and participate in the testing, commissioning, and startup of mechanical systems
• Ensure proper functionality of pumps, compressors, piping, ventilation, fire suppression, and fuel distribution systems
• Identify any discrepancies or defects and coordinate necessary corrective actions

Required Skills

• Working knowledge of the latest Building Codes
• Willingness to learn and an ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
• Valid Driver's license required – must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening

Required Experience

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• 8 years of experience inspecting construction work, varied in size (projects ranging from $200K to $25 million plus) and complexity (multiple crews and crew sizes per shift)
• Trained in OSHA 30-hour construction safety

Preferred Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred
• Aviation/Airport experience is preferred
• Electrical, civil, architectural, and structural knowledge is preferred
• ICC and Work Zone Safety Certifications are preferred

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
