Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to own and mature GSE tooling for large-format solar array wings. You will design, prototype, and qualify fixtures and test stands, working with cross-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.

The role emphasizes Design for Manufacturability, collaboration with machinists and vendors, and delivering reliable ground support equipment for spaceflight programs.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering required.
• 5+ years in mechanical design focusing on tooling, fixtures, GSE, or ground handling equipment.
• Hands-on prototyping and acceptance testing experience.
• Ability to own and deliver fully commissioned machines and fixtures from concept to qualification.
• Experience with vendors to size, specify, and commission large-scale equipment.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD and GD&T per ASME Y14.5.

Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, fabricate, and verify GSE for large-format solar array wings from prototype to qualification test.
• Develop breakover and repositioning fixtures for wing handling during ground integration.
• Build and validate electro-mechanical test stands for spacecraft mechanisms using sensors and motors.
• Lead experiments to quantify performance and inform flight hardware testing procedures.
• Collaborate with manufacturing to enable higher production rates through tooling and jigs.
• Create wing assembly fixtures, including integration stands and drill jigs with DFx in mind.
• Communicate design learnings to improve manufacturability and handling.
