Job summary

Dematic in Grand Rapids area is seeking a Mechanical Foreman to lead mechanical installation projects across North America. This hands-on role manages installation crews, coordinates tasks, and ensures safety, quality, and on-time project delivery.

You will mentor teams, work closely with project management, and handle on-site challenges, including heavy lifting (50 lbs), complex layouts, and coordinating with other trades. Travel is required to customer sites nationwide.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent; technical degree preferred but not required.
  • 2-5 years of experience installing and/or maintaining conveyor or material handling equipment.
  • Willingness to travel 100% to customer sites across the United States.
  • Valid driver’s license; OSHA 30 certification required upon hire.
  • Coordinate daily work activities and supervise progress.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and work in varying climates.

Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned mechanical installation tasks safely and efficiently as directed by site supervision.
  • Conveyor System Layout & Pre-Assembly: Plan and complete conveyor layouts, verify component fit, and pre-assemble conveyor sections for efficient on-site installation.
  • Header Steel, Platform, & Structural Steel Installation: Lead installation of structural elements to ensure secure installation.
  • Take personal responsibility for safety on-site and for teammates.
  • Conveyor Installation, Guardrail, & Rack Systems: Install conveyors and safety systems with attention to alignment and integrity.
  • Equipment Detailing & Run-In: Perform detailed installation tasks and initial run-in testing before commissioning.
  • Provide guidance, basic training, and support to less experienced personnel.
  • Coordinate with internal project teams and other trades.

Job description

As a Mechanical Foreman, you will lead mechanical installation projects at client locations throughout North America. The Mechanical Foreman is responsible for leading all aspects of installation crews, coordinating work assignments, ensuring high-quality workmanship, maintaining safety standards, and completing projects on time and within budget. This hands‑on leadership role requires planning, providing mentorship to the team, fixing issues, and close collaboration with project management to deliver successful mechanical system installations.

The base pay range for this role is estimated to be $60,400 to $83,050 salary at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined by various factors such as work location, education, experience, knowledge, and skills.

Tasks and Qualifications:
What you will do in this Role:
  • Complete assigned mechanical installation tasks safely and efficiently as directed by site supervision
  • Conveyor System Layout & Pre-Assembly: Plan and complete conveyor layouts, verify component fit, and pre-assemble conveyor sections for efficient on-site installation.
  • Header Steel, Platform, & Structural Steel Installation: Lead installation of structural elements, including header steel, platforms, and other steel frameworks to ensure mechanical systems are securely and accurately installed.
  • Take personal responsibility for your safety and the safety of others on-site
  • Conveyor Installation, Guardrail, & Rack Systems: Install conveyors, safety guardrails, and racking systems with attention to alignment, structural integrity, and operational efficiency.
  • Equipment Detailing & Run-In Activities: Perform detailed installation tasks, validate mechanical assemblies, and conduct initial run-in testing to confirm accurate function before commissioning.
  • Provide guidance, basic training, and support to less experienced personnel
  • Physically handle jobsite demands, including lifting at least 50 lbs, pushing, pulling, squatting, crawling, and walking across large construction sites in various climates and conditions
What we are looking for:
  • High School diploma or equivalent work experience; technical degree or specialized training preferred but not required
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience installing and/or maintaining conveyor or material handling equipment
  • Travel 100% to customer sites across the United States, using your personal vehicle.
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Coordinate daily work activities, assign tasks and supervise daily progress
  • Conduct daily Tool Box talks, maintain safety documentation as well as Gensuite audits and ensure compliance with safety regulations, site policies, and company standards. Will need to acquire OSHA 30 certification upon hire.
  • Coordinate with internal project teams, G General Contractors and other trades
  • Ability to lead small to intermediate groups of teams composed of a diverse set of backgrounds and capabilities
  • Ability to detect and resolve technical issues with existing systems and/or work being performed
