Job summary

M.C. Dean in Tysons, VA is seeking a Mechanical Estimator II to independently prepare cost estimates, budgets, and bid packages for mechanical construction projects. You will analyze plans, perform takeoffs, develop labor and material costs, and collaborate with engineering, operations, procurement, and project management.

The role emphasizes value engineering, risk assessment, and preparing bid summaries, with degree requirements and a background check as part of the process.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of mechanical construction systems (HVAC, plumbing, piping, fuel systems, hydronic systems).
• Ability to read and analyze mechanical drawings, P&IDs, specs and schedules.
• Experience with estimating software and BIM/model coordination.
• Proven ability to manage multiple estimates with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Independently prepare complete cost estimates, bid proposals, budgets, and design‑build proposals.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for HVAC, plumbing, piping, and related systems from drawings.
• Analyze project plans, contracts, and schedules to determine scope, materials, labor, and risks.
• Develop labor/productivity assumptions and installation methodologies for estimates.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor quotations for completeness and competitiveness.
• Prepare conceptual to construction document estimates and support bid reviews.
