Job summary

Mechanical Solutions, Inc. in St. Louis, MO, is seeking an experienced Duct/Piping Estimator to provide timely and accurate estimates. The successful candidate will ensure all estimates are in accordance with company policies and meet customer expectations.

Ideal candidates should have over 5 years of experience in HVAC and PIPING estimating, strong organizational skills, and proficiency in HVAC estimating software such as Trimble MEP or QuickPen. A comprehensive benefits package is offered, along with competitive compensation.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Duct/Piping Estimator responsible for providing complete, accurate, well‑defined, and timely estimates. The Estimator will meet the needs of internal and external customers and achieve total customer satisfaction. The Estimator ensures all estimates are executed in accordance with the company’s policies, including contract documents, budget, schedule, safety, quality control and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Estimate all assigned projects, ensuring take‑offs, labor factors and material pricing is accurate and complies with MSI’s latest estimating process.
• Call for special material pricing, equipment quotes and subcontractor quotes as necessary to support an estimate with current cost information.
• Clarify with general contractor, architect, owner, or engineer any discrepancies related to the drawings or specifications.
• Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required content of estimate.
• Prepare disciplined estimates by calculating complete take‑off of scope of work.
• Determine general conditions, fabrication costs, crew rates, etc.
• Prepare final estimate sheets and bid forms as required.
• Maintain files of working documents as backup for estimate figures, including current accurate pricing from suppliers.
• Participate in pre‑construction meetings and relay all pertinent information to the project manager and purchasing. Walk jobsites and attend pre‑ and post‑job reviews.
• Communicate with employees, vendors and subcontractors with the highest level of integrity, ethics and honesty.
• Support other department personnel as necessary.
• Some travel may be required.

• 5+ years of experience in HVAC, PIPING and ESTIMATING.
• Able to work in a fast‑paced environment.
• Technical knowledge of piping and sheet metal estimating.
• Design‑Build experience is preferred but not required.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, inspection reports, etc.
• Significant knowledge of construction methods as well as an understanding of municipalities and the permit processes.
• Proficient in HVAC estimating software (Trimble MEP preferred / QuickPen preferred).
• Ability to manage multiple estimates and tasks at a time.
• Ability to meet sensitive timelines.
• Strong knowledge of MS Office suite including MS Excel.
• Must be able to pass pre‑ and random drug tests; MSI is a drug‑free workplace.
