Job description

Job Summary

Builds, repairs, and prepares articles for testing and associated auxiliary equipment. Installs test article into test structure (test cell, table, rig, etc.). Performs tests in accordance with set test methods and established procedures. Consistently provides accurate and reliable test results. Has an in-depth understanding of the function of the test equipment and its contribution to the validity of the test results. Configures and operates data acquisition systems; analyzes data for appropriateness. Performs test stand installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of laboratory equipment. Provides support/recommendations to engineering for equipment supplier evaluation and qualification, equipment and facility updates, and instrument specifications. Performs other duties as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct performance and reliability testing on multiple and single cylinder engines, components, systems, and controls; diagnose problems and initiate appropriate resolutions.
  • Configure and operate data acquisition systems; analyze and review data; write programs to assist in analysis and interpretation; configure engine test programs; interpret results, make adjustments, document data, and maintain electronic files.
  • Perform rig, engine, and component builds, teardown, and inspections.
  • Grade and measure components.
  • Create sketches for machining and fabricate necessary piping, tubing, and brackets from prints and drawings.
  • Install engines and instrumentation in test cells and rigs.
  • Use common tools such as Calterm, Asset, Cyflex, etc.
  • Design, document, and execute test plans; provide input during plan creation; prepare test reports including findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Understand and apply appropriate company and department rules and guidelines.
  • Work with and train apprentices and technicians; interface with customers, suppliers, engineers, and other functions.
  • Coordinate programs including planning, scheduling, ordering, and tracking.
  • Participate in the maintenance of quality procedures.
  • Lead and participate in improvement projects; develop and give presentations to customers and suppliers.
  • Know and comply with all safety policies and procedures; demonstrate confidentiality as required.
  • Participate in self- and team audits and associated corrective actions.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as required.

Education, Licenses, Certifications
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent with Department of Labor Certification.
  • Or Associate’s degree in a related field with at least two years of relevant experience.
  • Or Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Experience
  • Department of Labor Certification OR four‑year experience/education achieved through a Bachelor’s degree or an Associate’s degree plus at least two years of relevant experience.
Work Conditions

This position is for the Emissions Measurement Laboratory during weekend nights (3×12, 7 PM to 7 AM). Technicians will be required to complete mandatory training to remain compliant (HSE, CLC courses, bottle training, LOTO, etc.). They will communicate with internal customers via email and collaboration applications such as MS Teams. Technicians are expected to learn fabrication and diagnostic skills, review their timesheet weekly, and purchase all necessary tools for laboratory work.

Location

100% on‑site. All work must be completed in person at the facility.
