Job summary

Hutchinson Group in Hopkinton, MA seeks a hands-on prototyping support role to assist with the industrialization of new products. You will help bring equipment online, support process development, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives within a safety-first environment.

The ideal candidate has experience with reading drawings, basic measurement tools, and Excel record-keeping, and operates in an ISO/IATF/AS environment. U.S.

  • Experience using non-powered hand tools (wrenches, torque wrenches, screwdrivers, mallets).
  • Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings in imperial and metric units.
  • Experience with basic measurement tools (rulers, calipers, thermometers, height gauges, thread gauges, stopwatch).
  • Solid basic math skills.
  • Exposure to electronically controlled equipment and robots.
  • Experience using MS Excel or similar record-keeping tools.
  • Action-oriented with strong communication skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship required; experience in ISO/IATF/AS environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Operations/Manufacturing in bringing new equipment, tooling, and technology online through overseeing trial builds under the guidance of Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineers with process development for industrialization of new products to achieve program targets through prototyping and early release parts.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineer with Continuous Improvement initiatives, including tracking trials and pass/fail rates, machine performance, and cycle time.
  • Document work with writing and photography for reporting, instructions, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other departments on safety, quality, and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Assist Operator training.

Job description

  • Assist Operations/Manufacturing in bringing new equipment, tooling, and technology online through overseeing trial builds under the guidance of Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineers with process development for the industrialization of new products to achieve program safety, process capability, labor and materials costs, and cycle time targets through the building of prototypes and early release parts.
  • Assist Manufacturing Engineer with Continuous Improvement initiatives, which may include recording and tracking of trials and early-stage pass/fail rates, machine performance, and cycle time.
  • Document, through writing and photographing, the work performed to be used for reporting, writing and work instruction creation
  • Collaborative participation with other departments in facility-wide Safety, Quality, and general waste reduction problem-solving activities
  • Assist Operator training
