Job description

Mechanical Technician – Battery Test Lab

An energy storage firm is currently seeking three skilled mechanical technicians to assist in the construction of innovative battery test stations and the secure removal of outdated laboratory equipment.

Your Impact

As the organization transitions to its next‑generation battery technology, the lab requires proficient technicians to rapidly assemble new test fixtures and dismantle existing ones. This position involves direct mechanical tasks, including plumbing, ducting, and piping for battery support systems. We are looking for individuals who balance speed with a commitment to safety protocols.

You will collaborate with technical teams to assemble prototypes, integrate them into test stands, and verify system functionality post‑assembly. Additionally, you will be responsible for the high‑volume decommissioning of test modules, which includes the handling of electrolyte substances. We seek candidates who can integrate quickly and provide immediate value.

Core Responsibilities
  • Construct prototype subassemblies by following technical drawings, established build procedures, and engineering guidance.
  • Suggest specialized tools to help improve the efficiency of prototype builds and fixture assembly.
  • Integrate subassemblies and necessary hardware components into designated test stands.
  • Verify system integrity post‑assembly by utilizing standard checklists to ensure operational readiness before testing begins.
  • Safely decommission and extract test modules to help maintain a high‑throughput environment for incoming equipment.
  • Manage the transfer and disposal of chemical waste and electrolytes to ensure full compliance with safety protocols and environmental standards.
  • Resolve mechanical and electrical challenges during the build process, escalating complex issues to engineering staff when necessary.
  • Proactively address operational gaps, such as missing components or unclear documentation, to ensure project continuity.
  • Report safety concerns and technical anomalies to leadership with sufficient detail to facilitate quick resolution.
  • Document build results, system adjustments, and decommissioning tasks to ensure team‑wide knowledge sharing.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly workspace to help foster a safe and efficient laboratory environment.
Required Qualifications
  • Four or more years of hands‑on technical experience with mechanical or electrical systems, or an associate degree in an engineering discipline; background in high‑power equipment is preferred.
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and procedures, with experience in at least one area such as P&IDs, electrical schematics, or CAD.
  • Capacity to work independently on standard procedures while knowing when to consult with senior staff for complex decisions.
  • Strong commitment to safety, ensuring that risk assessments and protocols are followed when working with hazardous systems.
  • Willingness to wear required PPE, including chemical suits and face shields, for extended periods while managing hazardous materials.
  • Experience with industrial chemical handling or a readiness to complete mandatory hazardous materials training.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain clear, actionable documentation and track tasks within project management systems like Jira.
  • Dedication to high‑quality craftsmanship, ensuring that all assembly work is reliable and precise.
  • A resourceful and detail‑oriented approach to problem‑solving.
  • A team‑oriented mindset that prioritizes open communication and early identification of issues.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
