Alfa ITG in Detroit is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead the design of custom automation equipment for production manufacturing. You will blend hands-on design with technical leadership to deliver high-quality, standards-compliant solutions for automotive and aerospace clients.

You will mentor junior engineers, review drawings and BOMs, perform load and stress analyses, and coordinate with controls, manufacturing, and customers during design reviews.

Qualificações

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 7–12+ years of mechanical design experience in automation or tooling environments.
• Strong 3D CAD skills to design custom tools from concept to detailed design.
• Familiarity with CATIA, NX, Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD; FIDES is a plus.

Responsabilidades

In this role, you will lead the mechanical design effort across complex automation programs and play a key role in shaping our growing engineering team, working for automotive, aerospace, energy and various other industries.

Position Summary

The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the design, development, and execution of custom automation equipment for production manufacturing. This role combines hands‑on design with technical leadership, ensuring high‑quality deliverables, adherence to standards, and successful project execution.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design activities across multiple automation projects
• Oversee concepts for custom mechanical equipment for manufacturing applications
• If required, Create 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings for:
  • o Geo-fixtures and weld tooling
  • o Robotic end‑of‑arm tooling (EOAT)
  • o Part locating and holding fixtures
  • o Custom automation tooling
• Responsible for change control documentation
• Collaborate with controls engineers, manufacturing, and project teams to ensure design feasibility and integration
• Review and approve drawings, BOMs, and design packages
• Mentor and support mechanical designers and junior engineers
• Interface directly with customers during design reviews and technical discussions
• Support build, debug, and launch activities, including design revisions as needed
• Ensure designs meet applicable OEM standards
• Oversee and Manage and Validate Load and Stress Analysis, including FEAs, FDS..
• Ability to quickly Hand Sketch a tool or a Kinematics for review with peers and customers

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics or related field
• 7–12+ years of experience in mechanical design within automation or tooling environments
• Strong 3D modeling skills with the ability to design custom tools and equipment from concept through detailed design
• Proficiency in one or more CAD platforms:
  • o CATIA, NX, Inventor (), Solidworks, AutoCAD
  • o Experience with FIDES is an asset
• Deep understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication, weldments)
• Strong knowledge of tolerance stack‑ups and GD&T
• Strong knowledge of electric/pneumatic controls components
• Proven ability to lead design efforts and mentor team members

Nice to Have

• Experience in an integrator environment supporting automotive OEMs
• Exposure to robotics, simulation tools, or digital validation
• Experience establishing design standards or libraries
