Job description

Turn-Key Solutions is a growing automation company that designs and builds custom robotic systems, machine tending cells, assembly stations, welding systems, material‑handling equipment, CNC fixturing, and production workholding solutions.

We are looking for a creative, practical, and detail‑oriented Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team. This role will be responsible for designing custom machinery and automation systems from concept through installation.

The ideal candidate enjoys taking a blank sheet of paper, a customer problem, and a handful of requirements, then turning them into equipment that can be built, tested, and put into production.

At TKS, Mechanical Engineers work closely with customers, project managers, electrical engineers, controls engineers, machinists, welders, assembly technicians, and suppliers. This is a hands‑on role where you will see your designs move from 3D models to the shop floor and eventually into a customer’s facility.

  • Design custom automation equipment, robotic cells, weld fixtures, assembly stations, material‑handling systems, machine tending systems, and production workholding solutions.
  • Develop concepts, layouts, detailed machine designs, 3D models, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials.
  • Select and integrate mechanical components including linear motion systems, pneumatic cylinders, servo actuators, conveyors, robots, grippers, tooling, safety guarding, indexing systems, and structural framing.
  • Work directly with customers and internal project teams to define machine requirements, cycle‑time targets, ergonomics, safety requirements, and production needs.
  • Perform tolerance stack‑ups, basic engineering calculations, load analysis, and design reviews to ensure reliable machine performance.
  • Collaborate with electrical and controls engineers to integrate sensors, actuators, cable routing, control panels, safety systems, and operator interfaces into machine designs.
  • Support fabrication, machining, assembly, debug, runoff, Factory Acceptance Testing, and customer installation activities.
  • Travel occasionally to customer sites for project kickoff meetings, equipment installation, startup support, and service work.
  • Review designs for manufacturability, serviceability, cost, safety, and ease of assembly.
  • Provide timely technical support for design changes, field issues, upgrades, and customer requests.
  • Help develop and improve company design standards, reusable design practices, and engineering documentation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent experience designing custom industrial equipment may also be considered.
  • 3–7 years of mechanical design experience in automation, robotics, custom machinery, OEM equipment, fixtures, material handling, welding systems, or manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Ability to create detailed part drawings, weldments, assembly drawings, layouts, and bills of materials.
  • Strong understanding of machining, fabrication, pneumatics, mechanical assemblies, bearings, linear motion, drives, conveyors, and industrial hardware.
  • Experience designing equipment that is practical to build, safe to operate, and maintainable in a production environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast‑paced, project‑based environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal team members.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel for installation, startup, service, and project support.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience designing robotic cells, automated assembly systems, welding fixtures, machine tending systems, or material‑handling equipment.
  • Familiarity with FANUC, ABB, KUKA, or other industrial robots and end‑of‑arm tooling.
  • Experience with pneumatics, servo systems, electric actuators, indexing tables, conveyors, AGVs, or pallet‑transfer systems.
  • Knowledge of machine‑safety design, guarding, ergonomics, risk reduction, and industrial safety requirements.
  • Experience with machining and fabrication methods, including CNC machining, sheet metal, weldments, laser‑cut components, and fixture design.
  • Familiarity with PDM systems, revision control, change orders, and engineering release processes.
  • Experience supporting equipment debug and startup in a manufacturing environment.
  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Health insurance, dental, vision, 401(k) match, paid vacation, and paid holidays.
  • Opportunities for travel compensation and field per diem.
  • The chance to design equipment for major manufacturing customers across automotive, energy, industrial, and consumer‑product markets.
  • A collaborative environment where engineers are involved from initial concept through machine startup.
  • Career growth, training, and meaningful ownership of projects in a company that is expanding quickly.
