Job summary

National Instruments seeks a Mechanical Engineering Intern to work with experienced engineers on hardware product development. You will be mentored and exposed to mechanical design in the product development cycle, including design, prototyping, testing, packaging, and manufacturing production.

You will learn techniques in mechanical design, heat transfer, tolerances, and electromechanical design while collaborating with R&D teams and performing project research and troubleshooting.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or similar STEM related field.
  • Sophomore or above standing.
  • Knowledge of fundamental mechanical design principles and processes such as heat transfer, tolerance analysis, design of experiments, and electromechanical design.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future.

Responsibilities

Job description

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers in the development of hardware products. You will be assigned an insightful mentor, who will guide you through your project and work term for a successful project experience. As an Intern, you will enjoy the unique opportunity to be exposed to many aspects ofmechanicaldesign in the product development cycle, potentially including conceptual design, prototyping, development, testing, product packaging design and manufacturing production.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be
  • Learn professional techniques and perform tasks for one or more of these areas: mechanical design and analysis, heat transfer,shock and vibration effects on product packaging, orverification and validation of products.

  • Work and interact with a wide variety of NI staff in R&D hardware and software organizations

  • Perform research as required to complete your projects

  • Diagnose and debug technical challenges
