Job description

Mechanical Engineering In-Semester Intern (Product & Manufacturing)

Commitment: ~20 hours/week

Compensation: $20/hour

Duration: 3–6 months (with potential extension)

About the Role

We are building a safety-critical consumer hardware product that is moving from late-stage design into manufacturing. This internship is a hands‑on engineering role focused on execution, documentation, and support work across CAD, manufacturing prep, and testing. You will work directly on a real product that is being prepared for production with overseas manufacturers.

What You’ll Work On

You will support the engineering and manufacturing process by helping with:

  • CAD cleanup and part organization (SolidWorks or similar)
  • Updating drawings and basic tolerancing
  • Preparing files and documentation for manufacturers
  • Supporting DFM feedback tracking and change logs
  • Organizing BOMs and revision history
  • Assisting with test setup, data collection, and documentation
  • Coordinating with engineers on simulations or analysis
  • General engineering “glue work” required to move a product toward production

You will gain exposure to:

  • Manufacturing workflows
  • Tooling and DFM considerations
  • Safety-oriented design thinking
Who This Role Is For

This role is a good fit if you are:

  • A junior, senior or recent graduated undergraduate or Master’s student in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Interested in consumer hardware, manufacturing, and physical products
  • Comfortable working with CAD tools
  • Detail‑oriented and organized
  • Able to work independently on well‑scoped tasks
  • Interested in learning how real products go from design to production
  • Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering (or related) program
  • Familiarity with CAD (SolidWorks preferred, but not required)
  • Availability for ~20 hours/week
  • Clear communication and willingness to ask questions
Nice-to-Have (Not Required)
  • Prior internship or project experience with physical products
  • Exposure to manufacturing, machining, or injection molding
  • Experience with drawings, GD&T, or basic tolerancing
Why This Is a Good Internship
  • You will work on a real product headed to production
  • You will see how engineering decisions interact with manufacturing reality
  • You will build practical skills that are hard to learn in school
  • You will leave with concrete experience you can speak to in interviews
How to Apply

Please send:

  • A short resume
  • Any relevant projects or hands‑on experience
  • Your availability and school status

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and the role may be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is identified. Early applications are strongly encouraged.
