Job summary

Olsson is seeking summer 2027 student interns for its Industrial Facilities Engineering and Design team. Interns will gain hands-on experience, creating construction documents and specifications under supervision.

We offer a collaborative environment across Lincoln, Omaha, and Des Moines locations, with exposure to Ethanol plant improvements, renewable natural gas facilities, and industrial process design. This is a structured internship with mentorship and development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• Experience with HVAC design or thermodynamics is preferred.
• Familiarity with HVAC codes and standards (ASHRAE, IMC).
• Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD or 3D modeling tools.
• Strong problem-solving and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• 3D modeling of mechanical systems.
• Pipe stress and pressure vessel analysis.
• Hydraulic modeling.
• HVAC system design, including load calculations and duct/piping layout.

As a summer 2027 student intern with our Industrial Facilities Engineering and Design team, you will perform meaningful, hands‑on, real‑world work that will transform your classroom experience and help you envision your future career. You’ll work alongside experienced staff and engineers to create construction documents and specifications.

• 3D modeling of mechanical systems
• Pipe stress and pressure vessel analysis
• Hydraulic modeling
• HVAC system design, including load calculations, duct and piping layout, equipment selection, and energy efficiency analysis
• Coordination of HVAC systems with architectural and structural elements, as well as other building systems

• Ability to contribute and work well on a team
• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, or other 3D modeling tools
• Coursework or experience in HVAC design or thermodynamics
• Familiarity with HVAC codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, IMC)
• Interest in mechanical systems for industrial facilities, including ventilation and process cooling
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills

We are looking to hire two individuals to work from either our Lincoln or Omaha locations and one individual to work from our Des Moines location.
