Job summary

CMTA, in New York City, is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern for the 2027 Summer Internship program. You will work with engineers on building systems design and gain hands-on experience both in the office and on field projects.

Interns will assist with drawings, surveys, and reviews, while developing an understanding of HVAC and code requirements. Relocation housing support is not offered; in-office schedule with Friday work-from-home is included.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Junior standing preferred.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, AutoCAD MEP, and/or Revit.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers with mechanical design tasks for tenant interior and core and shell building projects.
• Support the development and modification of engineering drawings.
• Attend and assist with field surveys and construction inspections.
• Assist with the review of contractor shop drawings.
• Develop an understanding of mechanical system design for tenant interior commercial projects and core and shell building projects.
• Gain familiarity with HVAC load programs and applicable national building codes.
• Conduct research and analysis to support project development.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and assist with reports and project updates.
• Collaborate with engineers and other project team members to support project goals and deadlines.
• Participate in training and learning opportunities to develop technical and professional skills.
