Job summary

Qualifications

• Completed at least 2 years towards a BS in Mechanical Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Assist with design portions of mechanical-system projects according to code and IMEG standards.
• Assist with researching commercially available equipment resources.
• Support client relations, project design notebooks, and documentation for permanent record files.
• Coordinate design and schedules with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment-supplier disciplines.
• Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring progress.
• Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final checks.
• Prepare and issue addendum information.
• Conduct periodic job site observations and other services required by the contract.

This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities. IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern in Melbourne, FL to work with experienced engineers and consultants on engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. This 10-12 week internship offers hands‑on experience supporting project work.

You will assist with project work within monetary budgets and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. The team serves education, corporate, and commercial markets while advancing high‑performance, energy‑efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

What You’ll Do

What You’ll Bring

Required Education

• Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required

Required Skills/Abilities

• Strong interest in design consulting
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
• Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Preferred

• Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
