Job summary

Marvin is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern at our Roanoke, VA facility to assist with capital projects, mechanical design, and reliability improvements. You will contribute to 2D/3D drawing creation, equipment troubleshooting, and maintenance documentation while collaborating with cross‑functional teams.

The role emphasizes hands‑on learning in a manufacturing setting, with exposure to lean tools and problem solving. Applicants pursuing IE/ME/Quality degrees are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in IE/ME/Quality fields.
• Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication required.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to use measurement tools such as calipers and tape measures.
• Familiarity with A3, 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, Kaizen, FMEA, DoE, SPC, and Gage R&R.
• Manufacturing environment experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support capital project execution, including layouts, concepts, quoting, purchasing support, docs, installation, startup.
• Assist with mechanical design of fixtures, guards, tooling, ergonomic improvements, and equipment retrofits.
• Create and manage 2D drawings and 3D models in Inventor and AutoCAD.
• Support troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis with downtime data, measurements, and operator feedback.
• Help develop corrective actions to improve machine reliability, safety and efficiency.
• Build and maintain maintenance resources: PMs, manuals, spare parts, lubrication points, inspection checklists.
• Collaborate with maintenance, operations, engineering, safety, and vendors to track action items.
