Job summary

Roanoke Cement Company in Troutville, Virginia, seeks a Mechanical Engineer Intern to support the Maintenance and Reliability team within a heavy industrial cement plant. You will assist with preventive/predictive maintenance, RCA investigations, and data analysis while learning rotating equipment and material handling systems.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and are interested in industrial manufacturing, maintenance engineering, or reliability engineering.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Rising sophomore, junior, or senior preferred.
• Basic understanding of mechanical systems and equipment.
• Exposure to rotating equipment, bearings, lubrication, or mechanical design concepts.
• Ability to read engineering drawings or diagrams.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Interest in industrial manufacturing, maintenance engineering, or reliability engineering.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to work in a heavy industrial cement plant environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist maintenance & reliability activities for mechanical equipment (pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, compressors, hydraulic/pneumatic systems).
• Support root cause analysis investigations and data collection.
• Assist in updating SOPs and maintaining CMMS records.
• Assist with small capital projects and reliability improvement initiatives.
• Participate in plant safety meetings and ensure compliance with standards.
• Collaborate with maintenance, operations, electrical and reliability teams.
