Job summary

North Star Imaging (NSI) invites talented Mechanical Engineering interns to join on-site in Rogers, Minnesota, contributing to 2D/3D X-ray products and CT systems. The role supports product lifecycles, from prototype to commercialization, with exposure to NSI and ITW divisions during a paid summer internship.

You will work with engineers on robust mechanical design, FEA analysis, and assemblies in SolidWorks, while presenting ideas to cross-functional teams and NSI leadership.

Qualifications

• Pursuing Engineering degree with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.
• Working knowledge of 3D CAD software (SolidWorks).
• Ability to present complex technical information to internal customers.
• Familiarity with mechanical hardware development and qualification.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams (Sales, Supply Chain, Software, Manufacturing, Service, etc.).
• Solid grasp of mechanical principles, machine design, automation, and robotics.
• Strong time management and prioritization skills.
• Self-motivated, continual learner, comfortable stepping into a lead role when needed.
• Experience with optical or x-ray imaging systems a plus.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers to provide robust mechanical design and support throughout product lifecycle.
• Analyze machine designs with motion control, robotics, and part handling.
• Design assemblies and components using SolidWorks.
• Prepare drawings and bills of materials for fabrication and assembly.
• Provide analysis of drive systems and structural sub-components using basic methods and FEA.
• Interface with manufacturing to support assembly, testing, troubleshooting and installation.
• Interface with project/product management to ensure projects meet schedule and delivery requirements.
• Develop knowledge of X-ray and NDT techniques through NSI experts and practical application.
• Lead and participate in design reviews for minor designs with cross functional teams and customers.
• Collaborate with software, controls, and NDT engineers to develop innovative solutions.
