Job summary

McKinley Architecture and Engineering is seeking a summer engineering intern to work with the mechanical and plumbing teams on design input for ongoing projects. You will gain hands-on experience with BIM modeling, building system design, and industry codes and standards.

Gain exposure to Revit-based workflow, participate in design coordination, and assist with calculations, equipment selections, and documentation while contributing to project schedules and deliverables.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a 4-year ABET-accredited Mechanical Engineering or related program.
• Interest in building systems design and construction.
• Strong CAD skills, Revit preferred but not required.
• Strong analytical, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others.
• Demonstrated desire to learn and develop technical engineering skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist engineers in designing and coordinating building systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection).
• Support the preparation and modification of drawings and BIM models using Revit.
• Coordinate with architectural, structural, civil, and other disciplines.
• Assist with engineering calculations, equipment selections, and technical research.
• Support quality control reviews and project documentation.
• Assist with field investigations, site visits, and construction-phase activities.
• Participate in design team meetings and project coordination discussions.
• Work to support project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.

The intern will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with members of the mechanical and plumbing teams to provide design input towards relevant projects. During the experience, the intern will gain exposure to BIM modeling, building system design, and various engineering codes and standards applicable to the industry.

• Support the preparation and modification of engineering drawings and BIM models using Revit.
• Participate in coordination efforts with architectural, structural, civil, and other engineering disciplines.
• Assist with engineering calculations, equipment selections, and technical research as directed.
• Support quality control review and project documentation activities.
• Assist with field investigations, site visits, and construction-phase activities when opportunities are available.
• Participate in design team meetings and contribute to project coordination discussions.
• Work effectively to support project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of engineering and project team objectives.
