Job summary

RT Patterson Company in Seven Fields, PA is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer/Department Lead to lead mechanical design efforts across multiple offices. You will guide piping engineers and designers, develop PFDs and P&IDs, and drive project execution from concept through approval.

The role requires a self-starter with 10+ years of experience in heavy steel/oil & gas projects, PE preferred, and travel up to 10%. Office-based with leadership responsibilities in a dynamic team environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• 10+ years’ relevant experience.
• Registered Engineer (P.E.) preferred or ability to obtain a license.
• Experience creating PFDs and P&IDs is required.
• Knowledge of Caesar II or equivalent.
• Functional knowledge of 2D and 3D drafting/analysis software.
• Ability to manage multiple interdisciplinary projects and prioritize deliverables.
• Travel to job sites up to 10% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical/piping engineers and designers and interface with project managers.
• Plan, organize, and manage mechanical/piping engineering/design, monitor progress and schedule.
• Participate in proposal development, presentations and business development activities.
• Coordinate staffing with project managers to meet technical requirements.
• Create and develop project design basis, PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment layouts from concept through approval.
• Develop specifications, data sheets, and RFQ packages; approve vendor drawings and data.
• Coordinate with pipe designers and other disciplines on 3D models and interdisciplinary reviews.
• Review piping specifications and ensure efficient execution of contracts.
• Oversee professional development of department staff and salary recommendations.

Job Description

We currently have a Sr. Mechanical Engineer/Department Lead opening to support operations at our Seven Fields, PA office. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and will lead engineering efforts in the mechanical design areas as part of a multi-office design team. Key Responsibilities:

• Assignments will have leadership and oversight of mechanical/piping engineers and designers as well as interface with project managers to fulfill project requirements.
• Plans, organizes, and manages the mechanical and piping engineering/design including, monitoring progress, schedule and hour expenditure on all projects.
• Participates in proposal development, presentations and business development activities.
• Interfaces with project managers to determine specific project staffing needs and assures assignments are made consistent with technical requirements and individual development needs of staff.
• Create and develop a project design basis, PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment layout drawings from concept through approval.
• Develop specifications, data sheets, drawing requirements for a complete RFQ package, approve vendor supplied drawings and data for equipment packages. Develop Technical bid evaluations and make recommendations on specific equipment and components.
• Coordinate with pipe designers and other disciplined designers in the development of project 3D models as well as interdisciplinary reviews.
• Review and selection of piping specifications.
• Reviews the mechanical and piping requirements for manpower and technical capability for efficient execution of contracts.
• Oversees professional development of department staff, evaluates performance and makes salary recommendations.

Capabilities and Credentials:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• Registered Engineer (P.E.) is preferred or the ability to obtain a license.
• 10+ years’ relevant experience supporting heavy steel/oil & gas projects is preferred.
• Experience creating PFDs and P&IDs is required.
• Knowledge of Caesar II or equivalent
• Functional knowledge of 2D and 3D drafting and analysis software.
• The ability to work on two or more interdisciplinary projects at once while effectively managing time and prioritizing project deliverables.
• Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
• Travel to job sites up to 10% of the time.
