Job summary

R.T. Patterson Company seeks a Senior Mechanical/Piping Engineering Manager in Cranberry Township, PA. You will lead engineers and designers, interface with project managers, and drive mechanical and piping design from concept through approval.

You will create design bases, PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment layouts, develop RFQ specs, and evaluate bids. Significant travel up to 10% and strong leadership are required for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
• PE license preferred or the ability to obtain a license.
• 15-20 years' relevant experience in heavy steel/oil & gas projects.
• Experience creating PFDs and P&IDs is required.
• Knowledge of Caesar II.
• Proficiency in 2D and 3D drafting and analysis software.
• Ability to manage two or more interdisciplinary projects simultaneously.
• Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills.
• Travel to job sites up to 10% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical/piping engineers and designers and interface with project managers.

• Develop specifications, data sheets for RFQ packages, and approve vendor drawings and data.
• Develop technical bid evaluations and make equipment recommendations.
• Coordinate with pipe designers and other disciplines for 3D models and reviews.
• Review and select piping specifications.
• Review mechanical and piping manpower and capability for contract execution.
• Oversee professional development of department staff, evaluate performance and salary recommendations.

Job description

• Assignments will have leadership and oversight of mechanical/piping engineers and designers as well as interface with project managers to fulfill project requirements.
• Plans, organizes, and manages the mechanical and piping engineering/design including, monitoring progress, schedule and man-hour expenditure on all projects.
• Participate in proposal development, presentations and business development activities.
• Interfaces with project managers to determine specific project staffing needs and assures assignments are made consistent with technical requirements and individual development needs of staff.
• Create and develop a project design basis, PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment layout drawings from concept through approval.
• Develop specifications, data sheets, drawing requirements for a complete RFQ package, approve vendor supplied drawings and data for equipment packages.
• Develop Technical Bid evaluations and make recommendations on specific equipment and components.
• Coordinate with pipe designers and other disciplined designers in the development of project 3D models as well as interdisciplinary reviews.
• Review and selection of piping specifications.
• Review the mechanical and piping requirements for manpower and technical capability for efficient execution of contracts.
• Oversee professional development of department staff, evaluates performance and makes salary recommendations.

• Registered Engineer (P.E.) is preferred or the ability to obtain a license.
• 15-20 years' relevant experience supporting heavy steel/oil & gas projects is preferred.
• Experience creating PFDs and P&IDs is required.

• The ability to work on two or more interdisciplinary projects at once while effectively managing time and prioritizing project deliverables.
