Job summary

Stanford University’s SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory-based LCLS Mechanical Engineering team seeks a Mechanical Engineer to lead development and operation of advanced scientific instruments. You will contribute to new X-ray and optical technologies, oversee integration and testing with staff scientists, and uphold engineering standards across design reviews.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field; at least two years of relevant experience.
  • Willingness to learn fabrication techniques for producing complex components and systems.
  • Demonstrated skill with CAD.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a diverse team.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills for collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to mechanical engineering development for new X-ray and optical experiment technologies to increase capability and reduce cost.
  • Contribute to integration and testing of systems and devices with scientists, fabrication facilities, and technicians.
  • Maintain technical scope and quality assurance through design reviews and standardized engineering practices.
