Job summary

KPFF Special Projects Division is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 6+ years of experience for Seattle or Tacoma offices. The role involves project engineering, design of heavy mechanical systems, and collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams across waterfront and industrial projects.

The ideal candidate will have a BS in Mechanical Engineering, PE registration, and strong skills in SolidWorks, FEA, and machine design. Hybrid work and ongoing professional development are offered.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred.
• Experience in project engineering and management required.
• Design of weldments and structures for dynamic loads; stress analysis incl. FEA.
• Machine design with shafts, gears, bearings; fatigue design.
• Kinematic/dynamic analysis of machines and systems.
• Hydraulic power systems; electric motors and drives.
• Industrial piping and bulk material handling knowledge.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks; familiarity with AutoCAD/Revit.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to design and development of heavy civil, structural, industrial, and waterfront infrastructure projects.
• Collaborate with project team and clients from concept through delivery.
• Apply FEA and dynamic-load analysis to ensure safety and performance.
• Support manufacturing and construction phases with detailed drawings and specs.
• Engage in continuous learning and professional development.
